Purrfect company for a postie

Postman Pat had a black and white cat.

And now staff at a Leyland sorting office do too.

Workers at Royal Mail’s Leyland sorting office have been left bemused by a furry friend that appeared earlier this summer.

And the cat, who has been named Jess by staff at the office at Breconash Road, Golden Hill, Leyland, has made himself quite at home.

Postie Janette Stephenson, who is based at the sorting office, said: “He appeared under one of the vans at first then came out and made himself at home.

“He’s very friendly and isn’t at all scared of the vans or wagons so we have a feeling he’s hitched a ride on one of them and come in that way.”

Obvious comparisons have been made between the Leyland cat and the famous Postman’s cat, Jess.

Due to health and safety concerns, staff at the depot are unable to keep the cat.

Janette said: “We all like the cat but we cant keep it because it might get hurt or locked in and set off the alarm. It’s a very friendly cat and belongs to someone. We wonder if anybody recognises him.

“He’s not at all feral, he just likes to come in and sit on the desks and be in company.”

Do you recognise Jess? Call the Evening Post newsroom on 01772 838107 if you do.

I'm assuming they've tried taking it to the vets to check if it's microchipped...?
Does this rag smell of chloroform to you?
