It's the union that needs a viable strategy to defend against privatisation. I have been through a similar situation before and the pre-privatisation rhetoric was less than inspiring from the then GMB and did absolutely nothing to stem the tide which is pretty much like this situation. In the latter stages it was incredible how much leeway the union gave to actually facilitate the changeover.

The union was trying to hold a very interesting and delicate position with the Postal Services Act.
We needed a pension deficit solution.
The only way that was ever going to happen was in conjunction with an Act designed to pave the way for privatisation....so while one face was banging the drum about fighting privatisation the other face was negotiating or at least trying to lubricate an acceptable settlement.
I'm not knocking it,we have what some would consider to be solidity in our pensions pre-2008 at least...the question now is does the leadership have the bottle to bite the hand that fed it and relaunch the battle against privatisation,this time for real and with every weapon we have.
There were big things promised at conference but that was then and so far i haven't seen much action but they may be just biding their time.
Either the fight has just begun or it won't happen at all but the "fight" in 2010 was not the real fight merely a little sparring while the promoters set the ground rules...
