From the photo in that article (found via a google search), there are emergency stop buttons at regular intervals along the machine so I can't see any issues with that
Yeah, those are lockable stop buttons.

At the feeder, directly underneath the touchscreen (probably hidden by separator cards) is the remote power kill button, the one you are told to never press on your training. The main one is at the other end of the machine on the electrical cabinet, it's a red and yellow turn switch.

Takes less time to yell at the feeder than it does to run all the way to the EC and hit that one.
Why are operators even touching the remote power kill buttons, shouldn't they only be operated by the engineers?
Even if it wasn't mentioned in the Manual, it's basic H&S that if something goes wrong, particularly if it causes a potential threat to yourself or others. You hit the Emergency (remote power kill) Button, which should lock in place, until someone releases it. It MUST be designed never to release accidentally, but require operator action to do so (invariably by rotating the button). Whoever trained you, and told you never to press it, isn't doing their job properly. Those buttons are fitted to the machines (in this case ILSM, but they're fitted to all electrical machinery) for emergency use only. There should also be a completely seperate Stop (or off) button, for shutting it down after use.

The red buttons in the picture TBT posted are the estops, which stop the motors and lock in place requiring the button to be pulled to disengage the button, and a button on the feeder control panel to be pressed before you and start the machine again.

There are another 2 switches which kills the power to the whole machine (think like a circuit breaker), one at the feeder and one on the electrical cabinet, both requiring engineer intervention to unlock once used. This should only be used when there is a genuine threat to life or limb (sic, from the trainer who trained me).

There is a separate shutdown button, that the engineers hate when we use, since about 5 things break during the power on/off cycle.

It's pretty much exactly like CSS
