Sri Lanka's Post Master General Rohana Abeyratna says that the recruitment of graduates to the Sri Lanka Postal Department has been suspended temporarily due to the protest of the trade unions.
The Ministry of Postal Services recently decided to recruit several hundreds of graduates to the postal service which has around 2,000 vacancies. However, so far, the graduates were not recruited to the postal service and the basic qualifications of postal employees did not include degrees.
Meanwhile, the media spokesman of the Postal Services Trade Union Collective Chinthaka Bandara said that the trade unions had not objected to the recruitment of graduates but had demanded to streamline the recruitment process.
The Minister of Postal Services has assigned the Post Master General to look into the matter and to submit a report immediately regarding the situation.

The recruitment of graduates into the Royal Mail has not been an overall success. One or two with something to recommend them, but in the main, too many of them look out of their comfort zones.
