Re: 7AM starts why??
as I've been on annual leave and had a letter stuck through my front door
i,m on a 25hr contract (permanent ) 9 o'clock till 2 , been on this for 4 yrs , often asked about more hrs but always rejected , so too increase my income ive got a part time job car valeting in the later part of the afternoons and on my days off , however the said letter said that my start time has been shifted back 1 hr , so my whole day has been shifted ,so technically i wont finish till 3 , and as i live a 30 minute drive from my delivery office , and, also my other job location ,its going to be a huge problem , i can get written proof of my car valeting job ,as its a local garage and legit business.
my question is this , we have had 2 members of staff , that have hrs to suit them ,i.e, hours changed !!! would i be able to use that as an example as to keep my hrs , or would i be entitled to offer to work three 8 hr days to accommodate my other job , anyone else had the same situation

Everyone suffers in changes.
Family having problem with picking up kids / childcare
Football fans with Saturday early kick off or can't go to away games
People with part time jobs
People with partners doing jobs in different shift.
People wait for post longer
People not getting jobs or losing their jobs.
Only winners is Fat Cat managers can save money in short term.

Re: 7AM starts why??
There is absolutely no reason why EVERY postman and woman can't have a finish time of 1.30pm.
In this day and age we are going backwards not forwards, seems to me those at the top are seeking to piss off their most loyal employees.

What about last letter times? 3 on Town 4 on Rural? if we started as late as that we would never make the cut off time, you must be working past that, what about your business customers under revision you can't worsen the service for them so they say.

We have not had ours either,I have a cycle dilvery 660+ drops with lots of businesses plus residential & still expanding,06.30 starts with varying finish times but most of the time not finishing until 4ish like you, delivery is a bit of a bulky one.Lee42 wrote:Our official times are 0730-1530.Mon-Sat.bandit650 wrote:What about last letter times? 3 on Town 4 on Rural? if we started as late as that we would never make the cut off time, you must be working past that, what about your business customers under revision you can't worsen the service for them so they say.

It's all about "modernisation", if by modernisation you mean a poorer service than that operating in the Victorian era.eastie wrote:Why the hell do RM want us to start later at 7am??

Re: 7AM starts why??
Once all the dickhead policy makers on the golf course have been replaced by the mystery 'elves' who will take over when privatised, all these later starts and finishes will finally see the job off for Royal Mail along with it's name.
But fear not, all is not lost because I'd lay money on it, that once this crowd of billionaire Tory tossers have been swept from power, some one with an ounce of intelligence will realise that what we HAD was actually the best way of doing things and was infact the best tool we had to actually encourage and grow business,
BECAUSE IT GAVE BOTH BUSINESS AND RECEIVING CUSTOMERS WHAT THEY WANTED FROM A POSTAL SERVICE.
2 DELIVERIES (Go the whole hog and have 3 with rotating shifts for customers who prefer early evening when we do collections),
MAIL BACK ON THE PLANES WITH SKYNET.
MAIL BACK ON THE TRAINS WITH RAILNET.
BRING BACK STREAMLINE.
DELIVERIES ALL ON BICYCLE (or modern cyclo-cargo electric assisted tricycle)
NO VANS & TROLLIES
05:45 starts & 13:07 finishes.
stream the mail, refuse to handle 'DSA' and promote our own products instead.
OFFER SERVICES WHICH THE OTHERS CAN NOT COMPETE WITH,
THEN ONCE YOU HAVE GRABBED THE ATTENTION, THE BELIEF, THE RESPECT AND THE HEART AND MIND OF THE PUBLIC AND BUSINESS, YOU'VE CRACKED IT!
But you can wake up now, there's a long way to go before some up top realises that what they think is a 'NEW WAY OF WORKING', is actually one that we used to do anyway some 40 odd years earlier.
"IF IT ISN'T BROKEN, DON'T TRY AND FIX IT!"
