I’m not naïve enough to imagine that our basic pay would be at the level that it is today were it not for the bargaining on our behalf by our union negotiators with our employer.
Sometimes we all get a little carried away with what’s currently happening and overlook the good work that has been done.

Basic Pay I grant you has increased, but real terms take home pay has diminished over the last ten years. I prefer to look at what goes into my bank rather than fantasising over an increase in basic pay at the expense of other benefits that have either been done away with or incorporated into basic pay. 1+1=2 / 1+1-1=1

I would not have negotiated away benefits that were already in place, and as DVB says lower than inflation increases.

As unskilled labour without collective bargaining we would be on the minimum wage of £6.08 per hour,
rising to a hardly inflation busting £6.19 in October.

You're right, but those negotiations haven't taken place recently have they? Our terms and conditions and pay have definitely nosedived in recent years.

Absolutely right DVB. Whereas our subscriptions have increased year on year by at least inflation, the benefits that we derive from them have eroded, and bullying and harassment has exploded.

S4Wd i understand where you are coming from, and of course it is beneficial to be organised, but not in an organisation if the people pulling the strings are acting like those in the well known fable Animal Farm. When they cannot be bothered to get their asses in to gear to deal with bullying and harassment by management, then there is a real problem from the top, down.

Great! Let's get organised shall we - what do you suggest S4w - Workers Cooperative, Amalgamation..................Staff Committee, a new understanding and a working relationship with the employer I think they've tried that...................it hasn't worked.
