The members are not on board because they were allowed to jump overboard at the first sign of rough seas by a management and unfortunately union structure that panicked.
Now we have weight back on the shoulder but for longer, pouch boxes and private cars being used and the inevitable carving up of the job that caused so much damage in the first place.

Management found out that park&loop costs and s**t themselves, members found out that management would turn a blind eye if it kept the costs down and got the job done and the union is unfortunately clueless on how to respond other than...problem...what problem?

So STILL the only bad thing about P&L & DM is the time it takes.
Stops posties getting early finishes(or as early)
And costs RM money in lost savings due to time it takes.
This ain't no baseball game, you get only one chance and you blew it.

That is the symptom...
The cause is poor... implementation,planning,management,control,expectations,engagement,training,tools...almost every aspect of park&loop other than the theory which is actually sound.

Two things:
1. We still regard ourselves as a public service. The transition to private company hasn't happened in the minds of most postmen.
This is obvious if you ask a postman who his customers are.
2. The radical changes needed by the company could only be achieved by overcoming the appalling industrial relations situation in Royal mail. We played our part ....... but the frontline managers ("rogue" or with the blessing of more senior managers) simply have not.
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

Point two is absolutely correct, the lino's we have at our d.o are about a management style of 20 years ago. They very much resent answering to the rep and tgreat staff like cattle.

Leaving those who do open to the usual bullying.
I think the fact that those who are "doing the job properly" are so openly bullied does play it's part in continuing this obsession with "making time"...

You might not get sacked for doing the job properly but you will make yourself a target so if you do make a mistake...and we all do at some point, suddenly what might have been dealt with by a ticking off gets the full conduct code treatment, complaints from customers will be actioned, mitigating circumstances for absences will be ignored, requests for special leave or holidays will be denied, overtime will be questioned, refused or not offered at all and performance will be questioned or tested.

We all know how Royal Mail management operate so it's hardly surprising that a lot of members take the easy way out and it isn't always about finishing early although bravado would probably mean they would rather brag about making time than admit that they are just plain scared of confrontation and possibly losing their jobs.

The most truthful thing I have read on this forum,I used to come in early and this was the reason why, however after a pretty vocal disagreement with 2 doms I decided enough was enough and refuse to give them anytime, but you do have to be careful and make sure all things like dead mail is done before leaving all my boxes are clear, still I have my pride.
