We've been through this before zx....
The delivery postman or woman would have the flexibility to make an appropriate
judgement of which neighbour to approach and indeed whether to approach a neighbour at all.
You can hardly decide what "doing the job properly" is if Royal Mail can't even nail it down.

we are a trial office a lot of posties wont try to deliver to neighbour due to the amount of foreigners doleys druggies etc those that do were doing it anyway so there has been no noticable drop of p739 items in the callers office

They should've had this as being able to opt in not opt out, a lot of people are NOT going to read the D2D and then
when this goes live they'll complain about parcels being left with neighbours.
RM will say we sent you a leaflet did you not read it??

I agree. Many people will either forget/not bother to opt out, or will not even realise we are doing it at all, then when it goes to their dodgey drug dealer down the road and is never to be seen again, they'll complain.

Should have been an opt in thing, I agree.

Fun new game though. Find the dodgeyist neihbour on the street and give them the packet!

yeah been through it before where you defend people who state state specifically they cant be bothered to do it but then you never answer the post back when i point out they say they are simply not doing it because they cant be bothered and not because of time issues or not because they dont trust the neighbours etc go figure....

If they all said it was time issues and dodgy neighbours would it suddenly become "doing the job properly" again.
If it does it's a rather pointless argument isn't it?

yes it would actually, they are genuine reasons for not doing it or complaining, but jjust simply stating they cant be bothered is not and thats what you have tried to defend in the past, not really pointless, if in office of 10 posties 9 cant be bothered therefore it appears as no issues with the new method, if the single postie does the job properly and finds its taking him extra time, he is not going to have much of a support in the office as dom is simply going to say everyone else is managing fine, you have said you cant see it not adding extra time, i agree but we are never going to get anywhere fixing issues like that if posties left right and centre just do what they want thus leaving the ones who do want to do the job properly in what is appearing to be a minority nowadays to complain as a small voice in the background

It is time for a reality check zx.
What do you think members should do in this situation?
Bearing in mind that Royal Mail have completed trials and believe that any extra time should be absorbed into workload do you think that
a) Members should have yet another fight with managers over the timing and completion of their duties using an argument for more time that managers are going to laugh at because they have the trial data to back them up and reps will have difficulty backing them up because their is no counter argument or guidance from HQ.
Members are not martyrs..they come to work...to work.

b) Members should use their "discretion" over a system that is unpopular with staff and not proven with the customer.

Do not forget one of the main reasons for this is to remove resource from the caller's office.
What if doing the job properly results in job losses?

Delivered some of those door to doors on a walk i was on last week, and one woman came out her door waving it saying "Oh did you have a parcel for me??" She saw the photo and the words 'are you out and about' and thought it was some kind of 739 card.
