Re: Not the smartest bunch are we?
I did not complete my original post as it might have revealed more about me. Suffice to say, householder called the office asking for his packet because the neighbour did not bring it round, And why should they, I said to neighbour that I will leave a note for them to come and collect their own packet; which I did.
This householder does not even know his neighbour that well and did not read my message on the P739 and on the note stuck on the door. Waste of time? It would have been better to take packet back...

Re: Not the smartest bunch are we?
why should a customer have to opt out? surely since this is a new way of doing things ,people should be asked if they want to opt in ?
theres a basic
im disappointed that that rm have so little regard/respect for the sender.
The sender pays the postage and has a reasonable expectation that we deliver to the address.
clearly the sender cant opt out. unless they have a sticky label for there packet.TM
(i thought of it first)
I didnt think we lived in a dictatorship .

Re: Not the smartest bunch are we?
I'm more disappointed in the union chunk.
There are no benefits to members since RM are convinced it takes no time at all so why are the union actively supporting this nonsense.
I can understand a need to provide the customer with a better experience than trudging out to an industrial estate to pick up a Dora the Explorer magazine but this isn't it.
This is a cobbled together, hit and hope, mixture of desperation and ignorance of the job.
There are two ways this can go...either it will encourage even more bad practice and complaints will soar along with dismissals.
Or it will be completely ignored by the majority of staff and customers will have something else to moan about when they turn up to collect their packet insisting not only were they "in" but both of their neighbours were "in" so why didn't the dumbass postie leave the packet.

possible dishonest customers and extra time taken it seems to have nothing but negatives sides for us.
at the moment if we leave a packet with a customer and it goes astray we are out n a limb.
but now they are encouraging this practic does that mean that we will be protected when it goes wrong.
or will the neighbor who denies ever having a packet leave us open to claims of dishonesty? i think the latter is more likely.

Re: Not the smartest bunch are we?
I have had no official briefing on this new practice, but from what little I have read, I don't understand why it has been allowed to happen without triggering a pre-implementation reduction in round sizes and then possibly a further review (and a further reduction... or increase if it REALLY takes no more time
) after a bedding in period.
Any DOM argueing it takes no more time should be subject to an on the spot demonstration in a clear area of the depot floor...
Use cones and string to define a 1:1 scale of typical paths/driveways in a row of detached/semi-detached, putting OPGs inside aimaginary houses up all but one of these
Give DOM an oversize packet in a trolley (LWT or HCT) that is addressed to a house with an OPG there to receive packet, time how long it takes
Now ask them to repeat this with the packet addressed to the empty house, do the job properly and take the same amount of time
Now isn't the official figure something like 50% of attendence packets are not delivered to the intended address? So as a bare minimum, each walk needs ~1min30 minimum extra for half the total number of non-signature attendence packets each day. So if they had 50 such packets, an extra 1.5x25 (37.5mins) would be required that day above and beyond this packets with neighbour business, equivalent to something like ~50-60 delivery points to cut-off with a reasonable packet count... Or of course agree to do the o/t.

Re: Not the smartest bunch are we?
Our DOM during WTL has told us to carry on as we were as he says it would slow us down even more .
At least he has the balls to admit it.

Re: Not the smartest bunch are we?
Apparently after you have found your customer is out then visited neighbors to leave the packet.
you return to original customer to leave new 739 with box ticked "i left your packet at number"
so one visit becomes three- minimum !

Yep me toowatdeadlyone wrote:Been told customers can only opt out therefore it is up to the postman whether to leave with a neighbour or not as it is not to cause extended delivery. Therefore I will be doing as I do now ,that is if no answer P739 the item, let them come in for it and there is no comeback ie neighbour says "I never took in a parcel"
For we were soldiers once, and young
