Sully man awarded British Empire Medal in Queen's Birthday Honours List

A POSTAL engineer from Sully has been awarded a British Empire Medal (BEM) in the Queen’s Jubilee Birthday Honours.

Paul Lewis will be presented with the medal at a ceremony in the autumn, in recognition of his professionalism in his Royal Mail career and for his voluntary community work.

The 52-year-old is honoured for his dedicated work on Royal Mail’s automated processes, and for initiating training and development models for more than 900 engineers across the UK.

Paul, who has worked for the Royal Mail for 36 years, is a former Sully Community Council member for Sully and Lavernock.

He is also recognised for his work as a trained Football Association of Wales coach, helping young soccer players, including members of the Sully Colts teams.

The married father-of-three said: “I am overwhelmed by the honour, especially in this special year for the Queen.

“I would like to thank Royal Mail for giving me the opportunity to develop my skills; and my wife Donna for supporting me through all my professional and community work.”

Mail Centre manager Rhian Edwards said: “As a company, we are extremely proud of Paul. He is a credit to the organisation and to the community. This is a well deserved honour.”
