Changes to postal deliveries in Penarth

ROYAL Mail is making changes to the way it delivers post in Penarth, as part of a ‘modernisation' of its local operation.

There will be alterations to some delivery routes, and new delivery methods, with the changes being phased in over the next few weeks.

Postmen and women will continue to deliver in the morning and for a longer period during the day, and the time of delivery will depend on where you live on the new route - it could be later or possibly earlier than current times.

A Royal Mail spokesperson said: “We have made these changes in Penarth to maintain our services and to keep our prices amongst the lowest in Europe.

“The way in which we communicate with each other has changed dramatically. Unfortunately, fewer letters are now posted every day and Royal Mail needs to organise its delivery routes to be as efficient as possible.

"We also deliver an increasing number of larger items, so we are investing in new equipment to carry these items to customers even more securely. The new equipment also reduces the risk of injury to our postmen and women from carrying heavier mail bags.

“These changes will require a period of adjustment for staff," added the spokesman.

"However, Royal Mail will be doing everything possible to maintain a high level of service and thanks customers for their understanding. It is anticipated that the changes will take a few weeks to implement.”

Local elected representatives and business groups have been advised of the changes.

Royal Mail’s collections and delivery sector manager, Stuart Marsh, said: “We are proud of the high regard in which our postmen and women are held in Penarth.

“The local delivery team and I are fully committed to providing a high quality of service that is as reliable and friendly as customers have come to expect.”

Letters are being sent out about the changes, and questions can then be directed to the customer services team on 0845 601 1399.
