our last rep (small office )got work taken off of every round he did and put onto somebody elses.
also reported any member who questioned him for b&h
didnt bother representing members who had issues unless they were his issues too
tld us on more than one occasiuon to go f..k ourselves

now i am the rep . since january the only perk i have had is attending two week long courses (very good coarses i might add)thats it

but have secured perminant contracts for some temps
rolling days off imstead of what ever was convieniant for lapsing
started the leave list intime to finish by the due date
limited summer lapsing to bare minimum

i could go on.. but the moral of the story...dont just bitch and complain.....put YOUR name forward and improve it...its all down to you and if your rep is seen in the same light by most ...your rid of him

Got to agree on this one...our two reps tend to look after their own little gang..friends and family club...they get the cream of any overtime,usually first choice,and one of the reps who is spare makes sure he himself gets the best duty going each week(with the gaffers blessing of course as they are all pals)...the rest of us get the worst walks..lol...the shite nobody else wants...

Not every one can be a rep,not everyone can stand up to management/colleagues and think fast on their feet,not everyone can hold a meeting and talk to a room full of peeps,i could go on and on.

It is unfortunate that there seems to not be enough peeps in offices to come to the front which then lets the scumbags get away with an easy life.

But if you have the balls,go for it and make a difference,i did.
I went sub rep and stopped my wankey rep doing a lot of s**t,especially during our revisions.
I didn't want to do it and it caused rows with the wife because of the stress i was under but someone had to keep an eye on things.
And he didn't know that i thought he was a twat!

Mrhump you dont state how your rep came by four weeks holiday, was it through a correct and proper leave pick and did he get his duty by applying for it?

Hello, sorry for slow reply.
Well he was the only person to have 4 weeks summer leave so I'm guessing he got it as a perk, and the duty wasn't in the resign it got made for him, so his shift could be the same as the manager.
How does a vote of no confidence work? People in the office have to vote or something?
I'm just glad I only got about 10 years left

Did he get his duty on seniority if so whats your point if not vote him/her out.

Maybe put yourself up for the job, then you could have nice little duty as all the reps have.

Most local reps work hard in a thankless job with no support from hq and are being battered by jumped up sh***s of managers because their membership can't be bothered to do the job right, still go out in cars and come in early.
Grow some balls and stand up for yourself and the rest of your office stand against your rep at the next election and then come and tell us his job is doddle.

What if they don't want to be a rep?
What if they just want to be fairly represented?
What if the rep looks after 55% of the members and sh***s on the other 45%.
What if the member says f**k it...i'll just save myself the bother and cancel my subs.

Getting angry at members is rarely productive,usually you just end up with less members.
If someone has an issue it's better to look at why they feel the way they do and address that rather than spout a lot of bile.
Something has failed if a member thinks his/her rep has an easy time,it could just be a communication issue or his rep could be a lazy tosser,either way it's a failure on the part of the union.
