UK Mail has slammed rival Royal Mail over continued strike action, warning it will damage the future of the mail industry. Guy Buswell, chief executive of UK Mail parent Business Post Group, has spoken out following this week's announcement of further Royal Mail strike action.
He says: "The long-running nature of this dispute is extremely detrimental to the whole mail business. In short, we believe this action, if it continues, is in danger of damaging the future of the mail industry. Someone needs to wake up and smell the coffee. Who's thinking about the customers here?"
He adds that he is keen to maintain good working relationships with Royal Mail and the Communications Workers Union, because UK Mail relies on Royal Mail for the "final mile" delivery.
"This is a business model we intend to stick with in the future, as we believe it is the most sensible option for delivery of mail in the UK," says Buswell.
UK Mail has a market share of 5.5% and collects more than 6 million letters.
Talks between Royal Mail and the CWU have been taking place for seven months in a dispute over pay and working conditions. The union this week announced two further strike dates in October, in a move condemned by Royal Mail, which says it is still willing to talk, but needs to modernise in order to prevent the business from failing.
The CWU said in June that its members had voted in favour of industrial action due to Royal Mail's "below inflation pay offer", and its plans to reduce the workforce by about 40,000, or 27%, by automating mail-sorting processes.

This just proves that they want to cream off the easy pickings and let us deliver it, but now maybe people out their will realise no one else will deliver their mail it has to come through royal mail so F*ck uk mail who do they think they are, one minute laghing all the way to the bank, now sh*tting there selfes because of big promises to the firms they cherry picked from us (oh were cheaper and more reliable) well you got the cheap bit right but f*cked up on the reliable part.

In all seriousness though - at long last maybe this will get people to sit up and take notice of a public service that currently is only lining the pockets of greedy fat cats.
It's so typical of directors all they think is of themselves with their big fat cat f***ing bonuses and they don't give a flying f**k about workers that's always been the case and alway will never change
UK mail is a susiduary of Federal Express and is just another voice of the global capitalists who are trying to screw us every day of the week and are responsible for third world exploitation which they aim to make this country-third world.
If they don't like it why don't they f**k off back to America and do business over there or stick to delivering parcels at 50 quid a go? as we do not need them here anyway.
WE end up carrying their s**t out everyday anyway!!

Gotta agree with the statements expressed here, as we've said before if all these companies had to deliver their own stuff, they'd pay us more to deliver it.
I thought the utilities and councils had some sort of system that would guarantee the bills got through, anyone seen anyone else delivering mail when we've been on strike.
