How?

No official way. Just like every other industry and our own Temp staff the best way is to make yourself known as a hard worker willing and capable etc. Also might be worth mentioning it occasionaly to managers in conversation etc.

However, not sure what the deal is with RM/Angard but when I was a casual at another business the firm who wanted to take me on a permanent contract had to pay a "transfer" fee to the agency.

How?

It seems that if you work over Christmas you might be offered a contract roundabout February time, but at the mail centre where I worked it seemed a fairly random process and bore no relation to how hard you had worked. Although several of us were chosen as the best workers before Christmas and asked whether we would be interested in contracts afterwards, not all of us were later offered them. Infact they tended to overlook the older casuals and I suspected some discrimination went on. If you are young you might be OK!
In the end I wasn't jealous of the contacts as they were mostly just for Saturday work and I was quite glad that I wasn't obliged to work every Saturday moving mail order catlogues out of bags into plastic boxes.

Short answer: there isn't one

Long answer
At least this counts for the customer service side in stoke. They simply don't recruit anymore. If they need someone, it is easier for them to use agency staff rather than ever recruit to Royal Mail.
It came up in the employee survey and as far as I can tell, if you're agency it's going to stay that way, despite being a full time worker in all but name.

I don't know why Royal Mail would do that. When all permanent staff have retired, Royal Mail will be left with agency staff, and I'm not sure that's a good idea.
