The vast majority of delivery staff did not have bikes and were having to lug heavy bags of mail around for 3 and a half hours , i think they would prefer a trolley to lugging a heavy bag about

The only method that truly takes weight off the shoulders. A Bag or a Trolley continue to cause stress to the shoulders, back, arms and legs.

I'd suggest that these occurrences are due to either incorrect or inappropriate usage.

We had a deputy manager have to do a round other day due to being short staffed and they never used a barrow once. Still took him over 5 hours when spans are meant to be 4 and a half. Any manager doing cut offs just goes out in their own car and use bags over the shoulders.

Strangely using that philosophy you are saying that the duties which were once 3½ hours long are now 4½ hours long, and guess what? they are!

generally van share / park and loop duties are designed at around 4½ hours, (three loops each at 45 minutes multiplied by two duties)
our rounds by georoute are timed at 4 hours 15 mins EACH anyway not 3 hours 30 mins

Interesting reading, but no answer if anyone will/has been disciplined for not using the tool (trolley) that has been provided. Now it's in, some people will not want to go back to bag on shoulder, some will. The same could be said for private car use, even though people still do in my office, (for example, following the driver in their car). Managers don't know what to do or handle the situation, people are cutting off with the excuse that the trolley is slowing them down. It seems to me that the silence from higher management could be construed as an admittance that the trolley is causing problems. No way in hell is a delivery quicker with a trolley, it is impossible.

Bikes are worse, because you waste even more time getting on and off it.

The problem is that there is no sure fire method that will work in all parts of the country. Bikes are brilliant for long driveways and long gaps betweens houses, lwt are great for terraced houses or open plan properties but a few miles out of town and hct are ideal for deliveries near the office.

I don't stop!

I can leave the trolley and pick it up again without stopping; and then there's the fact that it's quicker for me to deliver larger packets than the driver.

In response, yes a handful in my office have been given final warnings, the rule of using designated equipment is mandatory and failure to adhere to the rules is misconduct.

There will be no help for offenders from the Union since they fought for years for a system to get the weight off the shoulder.

Bar the odd rediculessly light day compared to the averge day since revsion, of which there have been a few in recent weeks, the only HCT operating OPGs completing on time are those cutting corners (starting early; not taking or claiming their whole meal relief; locking up HCT to do loops with weight on the shoulder). Typically, most walks are needing 1-3 hours of o/t, if doing the job properly.

Explain why?
because they always buckle and the breaks fail, they are hard to push up hills and look ridiculous.
