WINDSURFER Nick Dempsey ’s Olympic medal triumph has been recognised in Weymouth ... unofficially.

A mystery painter has turned a post box in Wyke Road silver to recognise his achievement coming second in the RS:X Men’s medal race in home waters on Tuesday.

Nick and his family live near to the post box.

It mimics the actions of the Royal Mail which has been painting some of its post boxes gold to celebrate Team GB gold medal winners. Boxes in the athletes’ hometowns are being transformed. Royal Mail said it was not responsible for painting the box in Wyke Road and said there would be an investigation.

A spokesman said the unofficial daubing could be described as ‘vandalism’.

Could be? IT IS vandalism.

Still hardly a surprise, RM should not have started this charade to begin with.
Run, rabbit run. Dig that hole, forget the sun.
And when at last the work is done. Don't sit down, it's time to dig another one

Perhaps it was a very clever plan to cut down on maintenance costs.
It's probably better quality paint than Romec use.

I think it looks good in Silver and the box in Lymington http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-hampshire-19223242" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; has had a better paint job than Romec have done on the 'official' one.
So keep on moving, moving, moving your feet
Keep on shuf-shuf-shuffling to this ghost dance beat
Just keep on walking down never ending streets

Totally agree.

Doesn't anyone at RM HQ think these things through?

Gold, silver, bronze and now every 'over excited' nutter will paint their local postbox to celebrate something. Green for St Patricks day? Yellow for St Davids day? Sky Blue for Man City? etc.

You know the ones, the morons that let off fireworks at midnight to celebrate little Johnnies birthday or getting a new tattoo. :mad :mad

He said: "He's lived here for around 15 years, all of Lymington believes that the Post Office made the wrong choice in painting one down in Cornwall, give him two."
