That's a bloody laugh from RM "Royal Mail has an excellent track record of managing people through change, and we will consult with the unions and our employees in the coming weeks and months to help them through this difficult time"

Truth is they suck at that and continue to change the goal post they two should hang their heads in shame if they got a heart and a brain which they never used :cfo :lfo

More bullshit from RM. They provide zero support for people re-locating. If you want another job in RM you have to do the legwork yourself. They appoint you someone called a 'People Change Advisor'. Total waste of time.

Things were getting bad to worst in Oxford mail centre. Last two years , they FAILED every day on outward and inward.Sorting staff and managers have couldn't careless atitude. With extream hardline union ... there was no understanding between management and staff. RM should have closed down mail centre 5 years ago. Out of 12 delivery offices in Oxon area , mail centre could not get more than 10 people to perform OT duties for mail centre. Mail centre was like a prison with NO windows at all and thats truth ... Mail centre has No windows.

Not sure why it took so long to be honest. A dreadful building for modern day operations. Can't put in the latest machines and mail was going up and down numerous levels. The working conditions were also poor as were those in North London. Mount Pleasant needs to be completely rebuilt if it to compete in the future, or move it out to the M25/M1 junction or possibly M11/M25 junction.

Other mail centeres will also begin to decline in number as RM doesn't need that many. With competition taking significant chunks of upstream mail this trend will ocnitnue in earnest. Mail centres need to be located near road hubs, and possibly some rail hubs. They need to be large sheds that can take the newest sorting machinery, and also be on one level.

It is also true that militancy will be in the backs on mgmt's minds, but if you were in their position you would do eactly the same.

I reckon the number of mail centres will be reduced by at least 40% over the next 10 years, and possibly quicker if things move apace.
Well moving the Outward Foreign from Mount Pleasant to the new state of the art HWDC shed at Langley with the wonderful
all singing dancing cutting edge technology computerised sorting machinery with motorway access was a great success wasn't it? - NOT !!!! :d'oh!

And how much has that little fiasco cost? It was originally supposed to be £300m. RM won't say how much it has cost to
date because of 'commercial confidentiality' but it's probably at least three times that now, over £1bn, with more being
poured into that money pit every day - but they want to cut our pensions which WE have paid for. :lfo :cfo

The laughable irony is that HWDC was to be the modern efficient way forward and the mechanisation would cut jobs out . The ****le Dwarf and SM's ( one with a "refuelling " issue } at a Central Lancs Zoo would certainly like to do that , to keep Area & Senior Mgt off their backs . Heaven Forbid that RM realised their human quagmires are corrupt & badly run !. There's actually more staff doing primary & secondary sorting which means more Yorks , more bags, more wagons and more tip & seg at HWDC . RM aren't very good at planning which is not surprising with a pair of chancers who think the world is a glorified bookies , it's just a game to them and it always will be.

Read the comments from the Oxford public and look at how pleased they are that Oxford Mail Centre is closing. If OX really was performing well and quality figures were superb then there would be a backlash and not the support for Royal Mail that Joe public is showing.
This is a wake up call for the CWU in militant Mail Centres to think long and hard about what they are doing when they promote unofficial (illegal) action. The likes of Bob Cullen are from the 1970's and I hope he's at home now proud of the fact that he has lost many of his "members" their jobs. Fair play to Gloucester Mail Centre that has been efficient, well led and has a CWU that works with Royal Mail to improve the business. We should be encouraging these sorts of Mail Centres to stay open and close the likes of Oxford who, through the militancy of the CWU, displayed contempt for their customers.
Well done Thames Valley Royal Mail Management team ....... a really good call. Let's hope this sends out a message to other Mail Centres who are "led" badly by their CWU reps.

You don't sound too disappointed yourself. Four posts and apart from the introduction, all of them kissing the bosses arses.

Erm if RM management treated their staff properly in there then there wouldn't be any illegal strikes in there? I think not and as for being led badly by their CWU reps you should think again before accusing them of bad actions :cfo :lfo

I suggesting nothing. It's quite obvious if he leaner any further to the right, he would fall over. As for Cullen being from the 1970s, he might be, but this dicks two heroes, Al and Ad are from the 1870s.

There was a comment in that paper's site about it, being at the worst six of one and half a dozen of the other . Success Factor were scathing about the management and the culture there , I have seen reps which were a throwback to the 70's & 50's in another industry, but RM either sit on things and sweep them under the carpet as it's embrassing , RM 's top down macho culture encourages blame & fear culture. The other RM way is to antagonize and turn storms in tea cups into disasters like the spivs in " I'm allright jack " .Plain failure of the system.

Disappointed .......... far from it !!
It's about time Royal Mail stood up to militant offices and showed them that wildcat striking and poor service will result in the closure of that office. I won't lie, I am a Royal Mail Manager at a mail centre and we are constantly having to clear up the debris from the last strike at Oxford Mail Centre. Why should other more efficient Mail Centre have to bail out poor performing ones like Oxford. It's down to Bob Cullen that OX is in such a mess and perhaps he now has the wake up call that he deserves. If you don't like what I'm saying then read the comments from members of the public in the link on the message above and see their views. They are delighted that Cowley is closing and looking forward to an "improved service". This is amazing considering in nearly all other areas the public would support their postal workers.
I know this website is for CWU activists, and you won't like what I'm writing, but this is the reality of the situation that we are in and only the strongest will survive.
I just hope the CWU are aware of this !!
