Just finished last Saturday shift (5 hours DSA cut & tip) no manager on site to say thanks for 2 years work, no "hope to see you soon". Nothing. Not that I expected a leaving gift but even a casul has feelings!!
Angard have not been in touch regarding any further employment and to be honest any work at Medway would be unsuitable due to travel costs. Then again the only contact I have with them is a payslip.
I have accrued 30+ hours of holiday and have been told I need to "resign" from Angard before I can cash in. I am a bit worried that if I do this and apply for any Christmas work I will start again on min wage pay. I have heard a rumor that Canterbury will be used as a processing hub over Christmas.
Its been fun, enjoyed the work and 99% of the people. Just seems to be a big downer when it all ends.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Re: Farewell Canterbury...what now?
I have and the reply is as follows:-
Thank you for your email.
I have submitted xx hours holiday for you, this is due to be received into
your w/e xxxxxx payslip.
Unfortunately i am unable to process 0.27 of an hour as it is an invalid
amount of time, we can only submit up to 0.5 of an hour. If you wish to
receive all of your holiday you shall need to request your P45, but this is
only to be requested if you have finished employment with Angard. If this
is the case I shall cancel your holiday request and submit a request for
your P45 to be issued.
Kind Regards,
Angard Holiday Payroll
SO REQUEST YOUR LEAVE AND KEEP A LITTLE IN THE POT AND YOUR STILL ON ANGARDS BOOKS UNTIL YOU SEND A REQUEST FOR A P45.

Re: Farewell Canterbury...what now?
as xmas is just around the corner and you face the possibility of returning to nmw if you go 6 weeks without work, was wondering if you can use holiday to break off this period and start the 6 week rule again

Re: Farewell Canterbury...what now?
From discussions with our MC HR people: using holiday is possible but does not break the 6 week rule it just pauses it.
Hence, if you have gone 5 weeks without work then take holiday you are still 5 weeks without work and another week without work or holiday will take you to 6 weeks.
Suggestion but not sure if it will work
There does not seem to be a rule about how much minimum holiday you need to take per week (there is on the maximum you are allowed) so, in theory, nothing to stop you requesting 1 hour every week in holiday pay until you get to Christmas work - assuming you have enough hours to get you that far.
