Three injured after four-vehicle smash in Blackhall

THREE people were taken to hospital after a lunchtime smash involving four vehicles.

Police, fire and ambulance crews were called to Middle Street, in Blackhall, just before 12.30pm today after a collision involving two cars, a van and an articulated lorry.

Three of the people involved were taken by ambulance to the University Hospital of North Tees, in Stockton, with minor injuries.

The road eventually reopened at 3.20pm.

Firefighters from Peterlee Fire Station were initially called to the street but were not needed and called back.

A spokesman for Durham Police said: “The incident, just before 12.30pm in Middle Street, involved a Royal Mail transit van, a blue Vauxhall Astra, a blue Ford Fiesta and an articulated lorry.

“It is believed to be damage only and only minor injuries.”

Officers say the cause of the collision is still being investigated.
