Gold post boxes....oops

"Well done Heather, you're the pride of our village," said proud postmaster Mark Baker, as he stood beside his gold post box in Larkhill, Wiltshire this morning.
Mark, who heads the CWU's postmasters' branch, explained that the redesign was in honour of Heather Stanning, who powered her way to Olympic gold alongside partner Helen Glover in yesterday's Women's Coxless Pairs.

And 24hrs later...

Royal Mail has denied it painted a Wiltshire post box gold to honour Heather Stanning's Olympic victory.

Mark Baker, the postmaster, said it was a complete mystery who was behind it.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

This idea of painting post boxes gold is going to let loose all the "nut cases" to change the colour of our boxes and destroy a long tradition of red post boxes, or could it be a Machiavellian way of getting us used to a different colour like "orange post boxes" ?? :hmmmm :hmmmm

"The Army, in a statement, said that it was "the magic of the Olympics rubbing off on the post box".
A Royal Mail spokesman said: "Perhaps we shouldn't be surprised that her colleagues at the Larkhill army base beat us to it - and of course they did a great job too."
 So the nut cases her are military personnel who should know better.
Why not paint one of their tanks gold instead, or would that be too much trouble ?
