Re: Union walking limit
We have been told that the p&l duties that seem to big to be done with a trolley are based on you walking on an agreed 4mph. Is it possible to walk at 4mph pulling a loaded trolley???

Re: Union walking limit
Wasn't the walking speed reduced from 4mph to ~3.5mph a few years back?jeanie wrote:We have been told that the p&l duties that seem to big to be done with a trolley are based on you walking on an agreed 4mph. Is it possible to walk at 4mph pulling a loaded trolley???
The inertia of getting a heavily laden HCT (upto 104Kg gross limit for a Mk I) upto walking speed and slowing it down should be taken account in their wonderful system (especially given we should be pushing the HCT around with us and not locking it upto an immovebale object for more than 2/5/10 mins depending upon the risk assessment of your area, plus the "weight off the shoulder" practice), even more so if the roads have any sort of incline, where it really helps to keep the HCT light and make full use of practical drop bags points.

There is the below from July 2010,is it still the norm...
dingo wrote:There are various walking speeds depending on what equipment you are using and what terrain you are on
For flat walking 5.95km 3.69mph( it used to be 6.44 )4mph
With an HCT 5.53 3.43mph
With a light weight trolley 5.59 3.47mph
Moving a cycle between delivery ponts 5.95 3.69mph
For HCT undulating 4.90 3.04mph
For HCT steep 5.19 3.22mph
Cycle 13.24 8.22mph
light weight trolley undualting 5.72 3.55mph
Light weight trolley steep 5.76 3.57mph
There will be some live testing taken on some of these but most of the speeds have been reduced and are now in geo route 2008 version.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

Re: Union walking limit
I measured out my full walk the other day (well one walk plus half of another) which was 9.8 miles overall. This was with a HCT, having it with me at most points since a lot of the walk was one long street, so doing loops from the trolley isn't worth it. It took 5hrs 40 mins, but only 3 hrs 11mins of that was I actually moving. The time between being stopping to post stuff, my little sit down between duties, waiting for signatures etc.
So my average speed is 1.7mph, which seems ridiculously slow. I think my break spoiled that and the time it took to prepare the overtime bit, so I may do it again one day. Because that is no where near the speed the union/RM set. My max speed was over 6mph though.

Re: Union walking limit
You would probably be walking quicker than 4mph if you were continulously walking but its hard to prove when your forever slowing down and stopping to put mail through the door.

Well i took my Garmin(G.P.S.) running watch with me one day as my D.O.M was trying to tell me one day that the walk was no more than 8 miles in total
we'll see about that....
With D2D'S it was 12.4 miles
He tried saying i'd made it up.....? Erm, satelite, Global Positioning System, i couldn't lie about it if i wanted to HAHAHAHAHA,

Re: Union walking limit
The union have lost the plot and the battle. There was nothing faster than a bag on the shoulder when you are pretty much continuously moving and that has been proven by the number of people who do not use the trolleys and revert to that system. The problem being of course you cannot complete the same delivery with a trolley that you could without. In order for that to be rectified the union should insist that the use of trolleys be monitored and where a delivery cannot genuinely be completed then the delivery needs to be altered to ensure that weight off the shoulder is adhered to. I can understand a local rep being reluctant to take that burden on without HQ support...........and that is because a blind eye IS being turned.

Ive had the same problem with my dom who cannot believe my delivery can take over 4hrs 30mins on a heavy day. Ive showed her the gps route on my phone which shows 10.94 miles, she simply turned and walked away.
I ave 2.3 mph on that day as well which i think was quite good
Rows of houses all bearing down on me........I can feel their blue hands touching me.......All these things in all positions.........All these things will one day take control..........
