Ive had two bikes now over the past 6 years and a pc on the rm pay deduction scheme

i was tempted to use this scheme, but it was a bit of a pain in the bum, so I was going thro the Mrs bike to work scheme, but that was ALSO a pain.
Luckily, the bike I reserved at £850 didn't sell, so the bike shop guy offered it to me for £450 a few months late, at £25 per month.

No hassle about a final payment, no hassle about who actually owns it etc. RESULT!

Proably use it Monday, as the Sun has finally decided to make an appearance.

This works with people other than Halfords yeah? I have seen a few I like but not with them. If not guess I will just buy it myself don't fancy paying over the odds

yes but its worth 10% less in real terms

It works (or at least used to) with leisure lakes bikes who i think have stores around the north west of England,
i got myself a Marin Muirwood from one of their stores in Bury, cracking bike.

I will not be taking out another c2w scheme next time as £500 does not get you a bike worth talking about anymore, a few years ago i could have got tiagra on a road bike, now you get the lowest of the low. Royal mail need to increase the allowance to £1000 and take inflation into account, 500 gets you rubbish these days.

I got a deal on a Boardman hybrid last time as there were no road bikes that appealed
£1k is a realistic amount now
The time before I got a Carrera Fury MTB for £500
that bikes now has an RRP of £599
so you can't even get the same bike for the money available

Not sure on how true it is,
but i've heard somewhere of employers offering upto £3000 on cycle to work schemes,
theres no way i could justify spending half that on a bike,
in my opinion £1000 is a realistic amount for someone who is definitly going to use the bike on a regular basis,
£500 is more than enough for those who will only dust off their bikes when the sun is shining (and how often would that be )

It is called cycle2work for a reason.
The aim is to get you a bike to get to work and back.
Not to buy you a bike you need to compete in the Tour de France/Olympic Road Race/national triathlon etc.

so it makes more sense to buy two bikes then?
Given my commute is near 10 miles each way (and I do actually cycle)
I think I understand whats practical
for starters.your Subway weighs 13KG+ and 26" wheels
for a decent comute I want a light bike and road wheels(700c)
I also dont see pannier racks mounts(though i see it in the spec) or mounts for 'proper' mudgaurds
