Re: Public Don't Listen.
I have even had them trying to sign the little bar where you add the bar code how thick can they really get?
And another annoying one is where they wander off back to the living room with the PDA to get their glasses.
Another one is Postie "Good Morning packet for Gemma Armstrong to sign" Husband starts to shout upstairs "Gemma its for you" Postie "No Mate you can sign it"

Ossie,
A tad unfair to call the public thick when most of them aren't as familiar with the equipment as you are.
Maybe it's an idea to ask the surname of the person answering the door, rather than asking for the recipient to sign ?

Re: Public Don't Listen.
Would the mail not blow away if you you put it down and how do you scan the barcode and hand over the packets to the customer if they are not in your hand ?Baggaz wrote:Would it be so outrageous as to suggest setting down the bundle of mail? (why would you be carrying packets in your hand ?)P13 wrote:As Patrick has pointed out how do you juggle a PDA , a bundle of mail and packetsBaggaz wrote:Howzabout,
Postie keeps hold of the PDA (ensuring PDA is not turned wrong way round) and hands customer the stylus.
Voila, no more issues.

It's called the pda shuffle.
Previously we had the name printed in the signature box and the signature signed in the print name box,or just the signature in 5 when you told them to sign 4,and no printed name ect.
There are of course many variations, and i'm sure we will miss them when the cards are retired.......not sure if the breakfast joke is needed here.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Run, rabbit run. Dig that hole, forget the sun.

Yes, go on, I've not heard a good breakfast joke for a long time, and it's almost that time of day.POSTMAN wrote:It's called the pda shuffle.

Put the mail down and put their packet on top to stop the aforementioned mail blowing away.P13 wrote: Would the mail not blow away if you you put it down and how do you scan the barcode and hand over the packets to the customer if they are not in your hand ?
If the aforementioned packet is not heavy enough to stop the aforementioned mail blowing away, put your foot on top of the whole pile.
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

Re: Public Don't Listen.
my biggest bugbear is when they hand the pda back and accidentally press 'clear' as they hand it back to you and you don't notice until you are halfway down the path and go to confirm it!

On the old card system we had sign and print, now its just sign upside down sideways whatever and nothing about print your name can't believe this scribble is actually confirmation now for a I phone etc to be delivered to your door.

You entering the surname is the 'print' bit.Ossie From Preston wrote:On the old card system we had sign and print, now its just sign upside down sideways whatever and nothing about print your name can't believe this scribble is actually confirmation now for a I phone etc to be delivered to your door.
He is confirming the addressee is present at the address.Maybe it's an idea to ask the surname of the person answering the door, rather than asking for the recipient to sign ?
