Postal delivery office 'not up to the job' says MP

BURTON’S postal delivery office needs to be enlarged to prevent long queues, the town’s MP has said.

Conservative Andrew Griffiths claimed the facility, in Falcon Close off Hawkins Lane, was ‘not up to the job’ in a letter to Royal Mail chief executive Moya Greene.

Mr Griffiths said he had been contacted by constituents complaining that the office was too small and unfit for purpose.

He said he would like to see the facility enlarged to have more than one service hatch so customers did not have to queue outside in the rain during busy times.

The office is used by businesses and homeowners to collect parcels and other deliveries.

Mr Griffiths wrote: “I have been contacted by constituents concerned by the lack of facilities and service windows at the Falcon Close facility, which leads to long queues at certain times.

“I collect parcels from there myself regularly and it is very encouraging to see that the postal service is used so much and is in such demand.

“I want to put on record that the service offered by the staff at Burton delivery office is excellent and they do their very best to keep queues to a minimum.” But Mr Griffiths said it was now time to improve the centre.

His letter said: “However, the facility there is not up to the job. Given the volume of people using the delivery office, there needs to be more windows for the collection service as well as more indoor queuing space.

“In the summer months it is fine to queue outside, but I am sure you would agree with me that asking customers to queue outside in winter should be avoided if at all possible.”

The MP is still awaiting a response to his letter from Royal Mail’s Victoria Embankment headquarters in central London.

No need to worry, soon we'll be throwing all the packets everywhere so no need for bigger callers offices.
