Okay – so the plan is out.

Royal Mail in the form of it’s gang of two has now shown it’s intent to not so much give the company a facelift but to change that face from one of a benign and caring public service to a snarling demonic consumer of lives and souls that turns everything it touches into chaotic fire fighting and management by knee jerk reaction.

No more knowing what we are supposed to be doing, where we are supposed to be going or being what we used to be – the new way will mean we behave like Pavlov’s dogs and react to whistles bangs and shouts immediately and without question or respite – and at the end when we are spent, the reward we were trained to expect will no longer exist.

Change for the sake of change is destructive – not creative, and I cannot help but feel that the scale of change and the immediacy that is required has ulterior motives. The fact that so much disruption to the existing system by way of change is demanded at once is indicative of an underlying move, not to make the business profitable but to render it unmanageable and open to criticisms that its workforce and union are irresponsible in their reaction to the proposed changes.

This is patently not the case, as the CWU and its members are fighting to preserve not only their quality of life but a vital aspect of the quality of life that the British public has had since the postal service began.

Too many services to our communities are now under threat in the race to make a profit with scant regard to the fact that someone along the way will always lose out. Reduced numbers of elderly people’s homes in a population where the balance of older citizens is increasing will not be helped by businesses that reduce or remove their employees pension rights to the point where they have to sell their homes to survive - assuming they could afford one in the first place.

Or then again a fine example of our wonderful free market economy. this week the bank of england gave £24 billion in loans to our financial services sector at 1.00% interest.

Thats £24 billion pounds of your , taxpayers, money at 1% interest to shore up financial institutions that took billions of profits this year. Be realistic don't ask for decent wages or for your pension promises to be honoured we've given the dosh to Barclays etc.
