You are of course correct that it looks fishy.

Using the official figures built into delivery routes, (Q&A from CWU Outdoor E Bulletin June 2012)
Q. Is there a standard number of what we call attendance calls built into delivery routes?

A. Yes they are as follows
• 17 per 500 Delivery Points for walking and cycle (4 of the 17 deemed unsuccessful)
• 18 per 500 Delivery Points for HCT (4 deemed unsuccessful)
• 20 per 500 Delivery Points for Van / Shared van (5 deemed unsuccessful)
Those figures show that there is an expected success rate of 75-78%.

I"m to be allowed to exercise my own judgement as to the suitability of the neighbours to receive packets, am I?....simple, I don't trust any of 'em. If there's any kind of misunderstanding or dispute, for whatever reason, then the addressee/neighbour (however "nice" they may have always seemed) will soon distance themselves from any responsibility and drop us in the s****e. Do any of us REALLY know the true character of the people who live on our regular duties?

So when are the walks all being shortened to accomodate all these extra minutes used in trying to find a neighbour to take a parcel for someone not in? :hmmmm

...Obviously walks with higher packet counts will need proportionally more delivery points removed. :left:

For the duration of the trial:
(i) There were no reported walk failures as a result of Delivery to Neighbour and as such no
negative impact on Quality of Service.
(ii) There were no reported additional delivery costs associated with the delivery of items to
neighbours.
(iii) Any extra time taken on walks to complete additional attendance calls was absorbed into
existing workloads.

None of our delivery postmen and women reported any additional time being taken on walks in
conducting their delivery tasks, and this is reflected in no additional cost being incurred at the Trial offices.
The absence of any additional cost in the Trial was supported by the discretionary element of the Delivery
to Neighbour Trial process that enabled postmen and women to exercise their judgement about the
appropriateness of delivering items to neighbours.

Royal Mail carried out an employee survey towards the end of the Trial period for all delivery staff working
in the Trial offices. Over 700 employees responded.
 50% of employees expressed overall satisfaction with the Trial. 16% stated that they were very
satisfied and 34% were fairly satisfied.
 35% of employees stated that they were neither satisfied, nor dissatisfied, overall.
 15% of employees expressed overall dissatisfaction with the Trial. 8% stated that they were fairly
dissatisfied and 7% were very dissatisfied.

Thanks guys. :cuppa

According to this it doesn't taken any more time.

I can't see how this way of working will be compulsory. For people who don't want overtime, there will be 3-4 days a week were they won't get the time.

its going to be part of the job, you cant just pick and choose which parts you want to comply with, if it takes you over your time then you follow the appropriate procedure but saying its going to take me longer im not going to do the job properly is not really on and you would get in the s**t for it, its like saying am going to be over my time ill not bother delivering the tracked or the large packets thats not for us mere mortals to make a decision on

so basically lie about it? yeah thats a great idea, why dont we just p729 everything and not bother taking anything out, save a hell of a lot more time, then we can maybe start cutting a few jobs with all the time saved

I notice that during the trial, no packet went missing. Any procedure in place for packets that get 'lost' when handed over to a neighbour?

Really, are you going down this line? How do you know they'll lie? Nobody said about leaving all their packets and just P739ing them............unless I missed how this thread was pointing to :hmmmm

I take all my packets out, I deliver them but it's only now that I know who the friends and family are (after 3 years) so that would be the only houses I would deliver to, RM want us to just throw the packets everywhere so they can cut the hell out of the callers office and save themselves more money and when something goes wrong then it'll be us who get into trouble.

But how will you know how long your delivery will take ?. Will the customer be in or out ?. How many packets will you have to offload on neighbours ?. I was on P&L today and we brought back about 20 packets, how much extra time would this haven taken to offload ?. Today it could of been 5,10 or 30 packets to offload, there is no way of knowing.

I'm not doing this. I'll just 739 it and say no neighbours were in, how they gonna know,
