I would class it as a failing revision but i think Royal Mail and their managers see it as a raging successdvbuk55 wrote:But would that not constitute a failing revisionP13 wrote:I think there is common ground on the revisions that are working! it is called non use of trolleysdvbuk55 wrote:You would have thought that after two years of revisions, of which the failures are legion, there would have been common ground after all this time to correct the failures and to learn the lessons so that each new revision WAS flawless...............but as they say you can lead a horse to water but.....who knows there doesn't seem to be common ground on what exactly IS a failing office - it depends I suppose on what perspective you view it from.

Bristol SEDO
Our office is failing big time! We've been at it for months now and frankly it's a bloody joke. We cover 2 very large postcode areas of Bristol and the revision was first introduced beginning with one area under the proviso that only when it had been made to work would it be implemented into the whole office. Well after months of it failing in half the office they decided not to wait any longer and brought it in any way and hence we are failing all over, to the point whereby it has become bloody embarrasing! At least once a week you can expect to arrive in the morning to find half walks left in the frames from the previous day, packets and all, and yet when it suits, the management still think it's ok to sack/suspend people who might have brought a letter back in the next morning! We've had the area manager in having meetings with all and sundry and managers timing/following people, we've got so many new part-timers it's a joke and even got several people doing nights which all in all has got to be costing a bastard fortune.. what the hell is wrong with this company? Until 18 months ago I really enjoyed being a postie, now as with all my colleagues, if there was any other option I'd be gone in a shot!

Re: OFFICES WITH A FAILING REVISION:LIST
I have to say that despite the revisions failing in our office I am enjoying the job immensely. When I see that a job is not achievable I do not waste my time trying to do the impossible. I relax and just move along at whatever pace suits me. Sometimes I'll work over to complete and sometimes I won't - in which case the managers do it. It's their problem.

Medway MC?
or is it too early yet to declare failings?
all i see out of world class is alot of graphs and alot of people walking about inspecting these graphs and alot of different bins. I was really up for a new MC but it is worse than before in my eyes, something has got to give.

4. BARROW-IN-FURNESS DO LA13-LA17 Working
It all depends on what is meant by "working". At the moment, i.e. the quietest time of the year, we are still seeing days where mail is being returned and/or OT booked. As we don't fill dockets anymore and simply report the amount of OT to a PHG who records it on a dictaphone, then God knows what "official" reasons for the excess hours are cooked up by the Gestapo.
Once September arrives, they're going to need an imagination better than the Government.

Re: OFFICES WITH A FAILING REVISION:LIST
Not in my humble opinion. Allied to what I mentioned in my previous post is the fact that there are still a number of deluded fools who believe that they absolutely must complete their duty in the allotted time irrespective of mail volumes. You know what's coming next. Starting early, not having a full break entitlement (the usual excuse given when challenged by colleagues is, "I haven't got time for a break on my duty"), rushing around the delivery, not using LWTs, driving like loonies etc.Stormproof wrote:So its not working??Ozzvaldo wrote:4. This only serves to mask the full extent of the problems in my office.....although at least one section of the staff, i.e. the management, are absolutely ecstatic about the whole situation.
To be honest, I can't see how ANY office can make a proper go of these changes, based as they are upon the curious concept of "model week" which automatically predicts DO failure for 50-60% of the days/weeks in a year. This, of course, was all glossed over very quickly in the various presentations that we had to endure before our revision with the peddling of vague fantasies concerning heroic posties who'd somehow finished their deliveries early riding off into the sunset on their white chargers to complete the excess mail left by all the other lazy sods. In the real world, however, the only way this mail can possibly go out is if the management do it or are prepared to stump up some OT, but they are rarely challenged to make these decisions because the people who don't wish to work past 3 o'clock are working eyeballs-out to finish on time.
The truth is, that some individuals aren't actually lazy enough for their own good and will happily flog themselves into the ground to complete rather than put the ball into the management's court, a ball that, all things being even, they can't return. Why?....because P&L deliveries take so much longer to complete (done properly with LWTs) than the pair of duties they were cobbled together from under the old system. I've performed quite a lot of the duties from my office both before and after the changes and I haven't found a single one that takes less time now than it did before....and the vast majority of the van shares in my office are simply two of the old rounds manacled together with no changes in content at all (apart from the additional time burden of now having to deliver the parcels and Tracked items that were previously the work of our dedicated parcel duties, that is).
The whole vision of P&L, whilst acknowledging that it contains certain laudable goals such as taking weight off the shoulder, was flawed from its conception and, rather sadly, a lot of people who's best interests are not served by it are doing their best to shoe-horn it in by whatever means possible.

Re: OFFICES WITH A FAILING REVISION:LIST
I think your right if something is working it means that the job is being done in the correct way, using the equipment that has been supplied, doing the job as it should be done and that does not include running round like some headless, driving like a mad hatter, taking your breaks, etc.It can not be said that something is working if your not doing things right.
