Fish, our walkers can carry two mailbags on their trolleys. These have to cope with the normal daily packets. How is that any different to a bicycle with a mailbag on the front and two further panniers to carry parcels, rainwear etc. Royal Mail are and have got rid of cycles on health and safety grounds, surely not that trolleys are more efficient for carrying packets, as that just does not wear.

It's not about trolleys versus bikes it's about the van and replenishment duties and growing the packet side of the business.
Bikes are useless for packets,so would trolleys be on their own....it's the van that makes the difference and you can't seriously stuff two bikes in a van and pull them out every time you want to start a new loop.

If it,s about growing the packet business then why are Royal Mail putting small vans on the road. Foresight would say that they need larger vans. How many parcels of any decent size can be carried on a L/w trolley and will they be robust enough for the job as our bag make up changes from traditional mail to more and more packets.
