Anyone got an idea why the first pillar in the W.asting C.ompany M.oney temple is called
Safety and not Health and Safety, just curious

A common complaint about safety in wcm is that it seems to drive towards a blame culture, so the company is never at fault, regardless of the consequences of the health of the employee. This has the added effect of 'improving' safety, in terms of figures.

It's called safety, because that's all they care about, health and wellbeing doesn't factor in at all.

Am I being too cynical?

The minute there is an accident at our place all the mangers want to do is blame the driver.

We have had three instances of drivers falling out of their cabs and being injured on the ground.

On two occasions the drivers were blamed and taken down the conduct code for not following correct health and safety procedure.
On the third occasion the incident was not investigated properly and the driver was not found blameworthy.

Any small accident now is investigated with the aim of blaming the driver, now whether this is because RM don't want to pay out compensation to the driver
or whether it is because the managers get a bonus for lower accident reports is the question.

I don't know the reason for this sudden regime of blameworthy's but it is getting ridiculous, falling out of a cab because of icy or slippery steps, laying on the floor
with your head bleeding and you get taken down the conduct code and given a two year serious for not following correct health and safety procedures.

In fact disregard of health and safety procedures is classified as gross misconduct so taken to its extreme, falling out of a lorry could result in your dismissal from the business.

No one has been sacked yet for falling out of their lorry but maybe you have to do it twice before you get the boot.

Well we will have to have a safe system of work put in place and a quick course on how to walk down stairs.

Then if you fall down stairs you were obviously not following correct health and safety procedure and hence you will be guilty of misconduct and should be taken down the conduct code and given a two year serious.

It would be funny if it weren't true.

We were told this week that as part of the ongoing introduction of World Class to our area (packets) that our break times are going to be changed in line with when the work is busiest on the night. This normally means having your break 30 minutes after you start your shift. Since when did World Class have the authority to change our duties?

That sounds a bit wrong like i dont think it has any kind of authority yet see your rep about that.

Is there actually any written agreements in World class mail?

Is there a document of rules and terms I can read?

Is it all just verbal agreements?

Rest breaks - a break during your working day

As an adult worker (over 18), you will normally have the right to a 20 minute rest break if you are expected to work more than six hours at a stretch.

A lunch or coffee break can count as your rest break. Additional breaks might be given by your contract of employment. There is no statutory right to 'smoking breaks'.

The requirements are:

the break must be in one block
it cannot be taken off one end of the working day - it must be somewhere in the middle
you are allowed to spend it away from the place on your employer's premises where you work
your employer can say when the break must be taken, as long as it meets these conditions

We now work from 2200-0600 with an hour's lunch break, thanks to WCM...... !!!!!

Thanks for the replies, we're gonna find out more next week so i'll try and report back then. There is no reason at all to change our breaks, as an area we perform brilliantly with no fails so I really can't see why they are trying to do this, it just causes more bad blood and resentment towards managers.

WCM is taking over the whole way of life in RM now, we are slowly being brainwashed , and the Union with it.

Well it has no rules, it can mean anything the management want it to mean.

There are no written agreements.
