i have been working p&l for 3 months now i work with a part timer and no matter what the size of the packet if we can get it in the pouch we take it
if we dont we go round together and deliver them in the van.
we swap our loops around every week so we are sharing some of the s**t loops so my advice is work together work your time take your break.

Try and divide the round so the walker can go back to a normal delivery with bag drops, saves about 40-60 minutes on ours. The problem is the loops are too small, so one person will write out two dockets while the other has finished and will walk to them to take some mail to balance the delivery, you can't divide it accurately enough, every loop, every day, with packets to balance out.

But if you go back to the old system, bag drops , boxes, couple of large packets then you may only be 10 minutes apart over two hours and someone can take a bundle off the other and make that 5 minutes.

Two people in a van, one waiting while the other delivers a large packet is pointless yet loads of people try and work it like that.

Going back to the old system defeats the object of the revision and the BT2010 agreement. I sometimes wonder at people who given the opportunity to get weight off the shoulder by using trolleys, regardless of how long it takes, will revert to a hybrid system in order to make what is obviously a mismatch work  The delivery should fit into the work hours, using the equipment provided, if it doesn't then more time is required and more time means more hours means more staff or overtime.

Why are you trying to save RM time?
What happened to weight off the shoulder.
Why would i advise members to do 4hr+ deliveries the old way when 3.30hr deliveries were bad enough?

This P & L is a surreal world of insanity. Thankfully i see the humour in this and have adapted a joyous laugh.
Being a young lad Royal Mail decided in their wisdom to pair me with a older worker. A very older worker!
At first i thought he had an accident, on account of me waiting for him for 20 minutes, but discovered he cannot walk very fast!
He likes overtime, i dont.
I make him take me back to the office at 3pm everyday regardless of if the mail has been delivered or not.
The round has never been completed on time. He works till 4pm, he starts at 7am. He has lots of spare money now. I have ample more breaks!
Am just a tiny man in a vast Universe. Why so serious?

Also the elephant in the room for those who revert to the old system is what happens when the Safe Drops refuse to help because they are no longer paid, and when ROMEC remove the Pouch Boxes. It might work briefly, but in my "opinion" this will bite people on the arse, just like flyers and PCODs did in some cases.

Or what happens when, for whatever reason, the lock jams and you can't open the box?
They will call that willful delay if you aren't supposed to be using the boxes.

TrueBlueTerrier wrote:and when ROMEC remove the Pouch Boxes
Do ROMEC do this automatically in areas flagged as having had their revision or is it requested by the office? Cause I imagine there are plenty of walks out there that are still dependant on pouch boxes because either the planning has failed or the walk needs to be covered without an available van (and permitted because clearing the office is paramount... sometimes).
The machine stops.

my partner and i share the driving. whoever is likely to be back first gets the keys and does the packets for the loop. we've adjusted the route to take into account for that and each walk has one long gap, when most of the packets get done. i do one, she does the other.

works well, so much so that rm should consider it standard practice :left:

For all those happily swapping the driving read the below...

Vehicle & Key Control

1. Under Section 172 of the Road Traffic Act 1988 Royal Mail has a legal obligation to provide details of the identity of any driver using a vehicle at a particular time

2. In order to fulfil this obligation, the Vehicle Condition & Mileage Logbook (the logbook) will be used as the primary day-to-day control record

3. While participating in this scheme, drivers must provide a detailed and accurate record of vehicle transfer between themselves and other drivers

4. For the purposes of the Road Traffic Act 1988, the driver whose name is last recorded in the logbook will be considered responsible for the roadworthiness and security of the vehicle until responsibility is transferred to the next driver by signature in the logbook

5. Only the driver whose name is recorded in the logbook may drive the vehicle until responsibility is transferred. Subsequent drivers must carry out at least a “duty” level (roadworthiness) vehicle check before driving and the vehicle logbook must be updated accordingly

6. It is a very serious offence to drive a vehicle without the appropriate driving licence and necessary permission. Any breach of this condition will be dealt with under the Royal Mail Conduct Code
