A POSTMAN from South Wootton has been given 120 hours community service and a 16-week suspended sentence for stealing mail.

Roger Holland, 46, of Burghley Road, pleaded guilty to stealing a quantity of postal packets between May 2010 and February 2012. He has been told to pay £500 costs.

The packets stolen contained items including a debit card, a memory stick containing photographs, 25 gift cards, 13 store vouchers and an unknown value of money from Royal Mail Group Limited.

Royal Mail spokesman Valerie Antoine said: “Royal Mail has zero tolerance towards any form of dishonesty and that stance is shared by the overwhelming majority of the 150,000 people in the company who are honest and hardworking.

“They take great pride in delivering around 59 million items safely to nearly 29 million addresses across the UK.

“Anyone found abusing this position of trust will be prosecuted.

“The safety and security of mail is of the utmost importance to this business. Royal Mail will not allow the actions of any individual to damage the good reputation of our of hard-working postmen and women.”

 Once again, for the sake of a quick buck, this man has lost his job, livelihood, and reputation. No sympathy.
