Confusion over postal address

BARNSLEY Council has been asked to clear up confusion over the postcode of a row of cottages built over 100 years ago.

The problem has arisen in the Pennine village of Green Moor.

The houses are still known as New Houses for their postal address although they were built in 1860.

They are situated on a track away from the main part of the village and there are frequent mail delivery problems.

David Horsfall, Green Moor Parish Council, said the problem seemed to be because the houses were still known as New Houses and they were away from other homes in Green Moor.

He said: “There are frequent post delivery problems involving New Houses so we have asked Barnsley Council if they can clear up the confusion.”

Some more new houses are to be built on the site of the former village pub and it is felt this will add to the postal confusion unless the problem is resolved.

Why not just call the new houses, New, New Houses?

That's the trouble with Yorkshire folk, taking things too literally.
They're probably still a bit unsure about New York.
