Well judging from the number of "meetings" on a daily basis apparently I'm surprised there aren't more people employed by the union - having said that how many of the "meetings" are necessary, or is it just a question of ploughing the same furrow week in week out to justify their existence.

The Wombles of Wimbledon could do worse than park their arses here for meetings as they spend so much time there anyway they could sell off that prime site and drastically reduce costs, just think no need for the fancy refectory as wetherspoons sell cheap food and even beer with coffee and tea for those few that would require it as they like to be sober. Plenty of space for meetings, they even have free Wifi for the few times HQ are forced to communicate no matter how badly with the outside world. DW would be so happy.

This site used to be a good debating site where often you would discuss and debate in a way which was often constructive even if you disagreed with the poster. However through no fault to postman and Tbt there is a handful of posters who simply think that the union does nothing to help anyone and every thing CWU HQs does is wrong .

Now Radom why don't you email me and I will take you on a tour of how the CWU work and what people do and to see real examples of the difference the CWU make on members cases . Whatever way anyone wants to spin the issue there is no stronger union nationally than the CWU and the likes of bob crow and mark swatoka they love our work place organisation . Yes we have to work on this where it is no longer working in some offices but there is no way you would enjoy the conditions you do if the CWU was not recognised by the employer .

How's about this, get out around the country, find out what's been going on in offices and sort the problems out or at least try to help.............at least do something.

He'll never get it because he and his ilk are part of the problem - the three wise monkeys spring to mind. I think they believe that the CWU is still a universal union - well I would point them to the latest ballot for the NEC/PEC where only 11% even bothered to vote. It would be very interesting to see the spread of votes nationally. It does appear to be more and more the "Gentlemans Club" where only the in crowd are invited to be a member.

True, you'd think that an 11% turnout would make them think that THEY'RE doing something wrong but they still seem to think that they've doing a great job and it's us that's the problem.

Both of our offices had really bad revisions with little or no help from headquarters (couldn't even hold a proper ballot in my office, had to be thrown out and by the time a second one was done the revision was already in by EA).

A tour of CWU but would be wasted on me as i am far too angry about what "our" national Union has done to its own members to be even remotely objective about it and i am just one of tens of thousands if not the massive majority that are totally disillusioned with the national Union although TBT who has far more patience than many of us may be a good choice for the whirlwind tour of HQ as he could at least write about it here as he sees it? I have no interested in how Mr Crow and co feel about CWU HQ as they are about as out of touch with their membership as are our own "leaders" are with us as members. By "it no longer working in SOME offices" i presume you mean EVERY office across the UK that has seen a sharp decline in pay, terms, conditions and pensions in the last 6 years or so, or do you mean the rabid employer that bullies it workforce every day in many offices across the UK? But enough of raking over cold ashes. I just want to know how many postal workers jobs have been given up by HQ in the last set of national negotiations 2009 / 2010 and that is ALL i am really interested in do you think you could help with the function and numbers agreed to be cut for each please?

Are our policy advisors all Russell Group University graduates?

At least the CWU could employ talent from outside the 'Ponserati'.

One of the most unfair aspects of tuition fees is that the graduates that don't go to Russell Group Universities are sifted out of selection for most of the best graduate jobs but their fees are being justified with the argument that all graduates get better job opportunities.

I think the mistake you make is thinking that the dissenting voices have become louder...they haven't...it's the number of people willing to blindly support the union's position no matter the direction it takes that have diminished.
That's where the debate has ended.

Of course we would be worse off without a union but that doesn't mean we should be prepared to accept anything through fear of the consequences of losing that otherwise the union becomes pointless.
A hat is better than nothing when it's raining but if you've paid for an umbrella you expect an umbrella.

Fishtank i disagree with you , I think same posters criticised the union and most of those who would come on and give a different opinion has stopped posting for a number of reasons.

This debate in someways is bizarre There is most of you having a pop at me when I am not reponsibile for what happens at CWU HQs. I have to say I have visited the vast majority of offices in London over the last two years and met the members and I dont recognise what most on here say. Now thats not to say that members like change and like what is happening in Royal Mail but members recognise that the enviorment which Royal Mail now operates is different to what is was 10 , 15 or 20 years ago.

Peoples views of what happened in 2009 are different , some recognise that Royal Mail were intrdoucing a automation , a new workplan which was a standrised 6 day plan meaner longer saturdays , putting door to door into workload and wanted to make improvements in producitivity, the unions role was to ensure it got the best deal it could and others believe we should have smashed the machines up and stopped automation , had a workplan which meant the mail could not be delivered and refused to have an increase in workload by scrapping door to door.

Talk about balloons on sticks.

I think your wrong and i believe you're trying to polarise the debate into "you're either with us or against us".It's not that simple,i don't recognise some of the things that go on here but i do recognise the management behaviour behind it...which leads me to believe it's true.
I haven't met anyone who wanted to smash the machines up and i feel it's a bit rich you talking about resistance to change when London as a whole has so far felt the least.
You've trotted out that old catch all favourite...Royal Mail would have done it anyway which is completely irrelevant.
It's not the changes that are on trial,and it's certainly not you...it's the agreement to implement the changes,the safeguards for employees,the rewards for employees and as you have continued to defend that agreement and very few others on here have then the debate will obviously centre around you...it isn't personal.

The problem dingo is that there are too many people who will defend the indefensible. I can't believe that all the posters on here are anti-union, what I do think is that most feel they have been let down. It is easy to brush off the concerns as tub thumping but the reality is that the agreement was not in our best interests and the CWU gave in far too easily and have actually become a partner of RM Management, which some see as a betrayal. This has given RM managers across the country a belief that it's OK to fly in the face of the supposed agreement.

Weight off the shoulder? 1 in 4 Saturdays or less? Protect full time jobs? Reward payments? Colleagueshare? Pension?

And only how many total D&M revisions in over a year......................and still it is defended.
