Just went Park and Loop 2 weeks ago .The duties are way to large .It's supposed to be 4 hours 15 min.In reality it's 5 30-6.00min.Bit of advice take your time, use the trolley as often as possible.even though using them takes longer. In my office, we have loads running around trying to do job and finish and they are totally knackered.Done the bag over shoulder for the first week myself and it destroyed me.Started failing 4 and 5 loops everyday now.Although line manager is now going to get spare posties to tie our duty down and load up the van when we are on our first break.Which should mean we should only have to fail a loop or two :left:Be prepared for the constant questions as to why you are failing.Heard our DOM saying to a postie that "we were all at it"Been tested myself at 5 hours 30.cinemasaint wrote:I'm starting P&L next Monday and I'll be working to my time as my partner has agreed this also I'm part time he's full time thats the way we've all been paired in my office.

If they keep saying it ,then we start believing it
Then we start biting and back biting at each other
Not sure about the driver ,non driver thing

Re: VAN SHARE
The driver has loops that are smaller in theory than the walkers calls. This would enable them to constantly break of to do pkts. Two of the loops for the driver are usually very small.Enabling them to break off and do Specials. It really does help when you have two people that can work as a team. The driver has more mental pressure(on heavier days) as they have to be constantly thinking about breaking off at various points.Where as the walker on average has more physical pressure. From a driver's point of view it actually helps if the walker uses the trolley,as it means the walker can take more heavy pkts. The first day using the trolley and my floating driver was a bit apprehensive about me slowing him down because I was using it.He eventually realised it was for his benefit as well.Being a former flyer,I think he's coming round to working all hours paid then cutting off.
The folk that are turning on each other are the ones that are trying to aim for- I'm paid till such and such a time and I should be at the end of my duty by xxx time. The ones that agree to work all hours paid not rush around are enjoying it the most, minus the harasment for cutting off.
It is actually a good idea. It's just the pie in the sky times that RM think that you can do the duty in that is the problem.

Re: VAN SHARE
Whose responsibility is it to sign for the specials for the delivery from the callers office? Do you both have to queue up and sign for the ones you are delivering or does the driver sign for them all. Could become a problem if one is lost or not delivered properly as the one who signs for it is going to get the blame.

Monthly E-Bulletin ISSUE 5 APRIL 2012
Q. My office has recently changed the way in which postmen and women collect their Special Delivery items following the introduction of shared vans, in that only one person collects the items. Has this been agreed nationally?
A. We were approached by Royal Mail some time ago about this and we rejected this planned change. However we are aware that there may have been changes to the Standard Operating Procedures and following a mandate from Conference we will be picking the issue of SD items up at national level.

Re: VAN SHARE
This was bought up at the conference Motion 74. It is now up to the PE to reach an agreement with RM for the introduction of a standard operating system for SD items, so both driver/walker sign for items they are due to deliver.obscurityknocks wrote:Whose responsibility is it to sign for the specials for the delivery from the callers office? Re: VAN SHARE
Remember your a team now, if you dont work together things will be much worse than they are about to become.
Just because it isnt your loop does not mean you can sit in the van for 20 mins listening to Jeremy Vine while you wait for your partner to return.
Use the trolley where possible. It allows you to carry all those extra parcels you now have and saves you having to drive around in tandem delivering them when you should be on your next loop.
Specials need to be done by 1pm, despite the fact that your round does not end for another hour or two. This means you can sit in the van for 20 mins listening to Jeremy Vine on a pleasure cruise of your round. Screw your partner, specials are more important. Dont bother using the trolley as you have your very own Royal Passion Wagon aka RPW. Forget team work, you have now become a slave to your PDA.
This brings me onto my next point. Grow a third arm, if possible a fourth. You need one hand to hold the mail and one to pull your trolley, then with your third hand operate your PDA which will need to be unlocked, have its pin number entered while simultaneously holding your oversized parcel in the same hand and scanning its barcode. Also if the customer is not in, write out your p739 and post it with the same third hand.
Carry around a steady supply of signature cards. Your PDA is the result of the unholy union of a brick and a potato. Sometimes it works, sometimes its just to sleepy and needs to be ferociously poked and prodded before it will work. sometimes it does not realise that it is supposed to be working and ends up in the strange place between asleep and awake where literally anything can happen. Sometimes its 80% powered, then 60, 50, 35, 38, 54, 72, 60 and so on. Sometimes it works all on its own and will nicely call an emergency number just for you
Sometimes putting it out of its misery is the only solution you have left.
Learn to avoid dog s**t like the plague. s**t on your trolley wheels which then gets thrown in the back of the van on top of your next pouch is not a pleasant experience.
Take your break. Take it and use the time to catch up because otherwise you will not finish on time. Management dont like you going over so use YOUR break to catch up after the planners leave you with a round thats impossible to complete on time. Its ok your being paid for it right?
Those are just a few of the top of my head

Only if he has a valid license, has done a changeover and has taken ownership of the van by signing the log book and completing the minimum pre-delivery van check.genesis wrote:With regard to van share ,Is the passenger ensured to drive the van as well as the driver, as he has a set of keys ?
And that should be done...every time you swap drivers.

Re: VAN SHARE
Thanks ,but what is a changeover? The terrain on the two walks are unsuitable for trolleys so there is an overlap on the small loops resulting, in a constant swap of driving to do packets, in fact the revision in our office is unorganised and there is a lot of blind eyes being turned with regard to breaks etcfishtank wrote:Only if he has a valid license, has done a changeover and has taken ownership of the van by signing the log book and completing the minimum pre-delivery van check.genesis wrote:With regard to van share ,Is the passenger ensured to drive the van as well as the driver, as he has a set of keys ?
