Re: failure of PDA
Conduct code for possibly missing a scan,is this for real!
I Wrote-During Covid-Which is still relevant now
It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Wouldn't it be in the trolley?ashadd wrote:fishtank wrote:Postal Digital Assistant (PDA), Handheld Intermec (CN3) Scanner, Mobile Phone and Satellite Navigation System - Safe System Of Work (SSOW):

Trials of the equipment found that the PDA was too bulky for Delivery Staff other than Drivers to carry round and therefore the PDAs will not be given to those who deliver by foot, cycle or high capacity trolleys. When smaller models are available Royal Mail will reassess the kit and decide if PDAs are appropriate for those forms of delivery at a future date.
Yes but dont drivers have to walk around with the PDA on their loop , so whats the difference ?

Re: failure of PDA
My scanner systematically freezes & needs rebooting, or just reboots itself for some stupid reason at least 2/3 times a week. Normally when you get to a place when you need to use it and then you have to wait 5 mins while you pull the battery out and reboot it, Pain in the a%$£. God only knows if data gets lost, but I would have thought so, as comms seem to disconnect as well for some reason and there can sometimes be outstanding items on it. Yet I have reported this many times and nothing gets done.

Re: failure of PDA
I think there might have been some confusion ashadd.
The OP said...
I could be wrong though.

I'm taking that to mean it wasn't a park&loop "walking" delivery just a bog standard old school walking delivery in which case he shouldn't have a PDA.was on foot delivery at the time.
I could be wrong though.
good times, bad times you know I've had my share

Re: failure of PDA
Most of my delivery is on foot with small loops, as light weight trolley not always suitable, I returned the formal interview notes this morning with amendments regarding video and text evidence collated, must of slipped DOM s mind as hadn't included that statement

Re: failure of PDA
Managers believe the PDA is the be all and end all and proof that you haven't scanned.
I know differently. I am a bit of an expert computer and servers wise and trust me they aren't.
I've also done a collection and cleared my PDA only to be hauled into the office the next day to ask why I hadn't scanned two boxes.
The burden of proof is theirs and just because the software has no proof it WAS scanned it does not have proof it wasn't. It cannot prove the negative. It could show up on the system in 50 years time!!!

And you can't clear your collections off the PDA without scanning them in..............and you can't scan them in early...........so why would you miss themPostal Postie II wrote:Managers believe the PDA is the be all and end all and proof that you haven't scanned.

Re: failure of PDA
I heard a rumour that we're to get new PDAs from next year............although it did come from a manager who told several things that were wrong so I don't really hold out much hope that there will be actually given to us.

Re: failure of PDA
I'm also curious about this. With P&L both driver and passenger take out a PDA then do 40-50 min loops from the van. According to the above statement should anyone on P&L be using them?ashadd wrote:fishtank wrote:Postal Digital Assistant (PDA), Handheld Intermec (CN3) Scanner, Mobile Phone and Satellite Navigation System - Safe System Of Work (SSOW):

Re: failure of PDA
A PDA is the same as a mobile phone . Left unlocked and you put it in your pouch, you can sometimes hear it clicking ? That is what is happening .andy prentice wrote:Had a massage on mine yesterday, informing us all that police are complaining that posties are dialing 999 on it and are investigating

Re: failure of PDA
If the delivery PDA doesn't work, you can use the EPOD card as a back up.
As for conduct code for PDA failure they can get stuffed on that one, equipment failure is NOT a postman's responsibility, the fact that a P739 has been left should be sufficient proof on its own that a delivery was attempted.
