I think the problem lies with your rep. Surely they should not have agreed on this sytem without consulting the workforce, and giving an explanation of the pro's and con's, before agreeing?!

" Some are also almost indispensable because of the way things are set up - they come in early to set up, they are drivers, they do IPS, they do overtime IPS, the do SA and other things "

Who gives a f*ck if he's a 'fan' of seniority or not? I'm generally not, but only because it gets abused by some, however, I do agree that rubber-stamping a restructure on this basis is just madness. It's about time some CWU reps realised that their personal opinions are irrelevant and they should maybe concentrate on serving their members with a little more professionalism. Something I see precious little evidence of.sickofthejob wrote:First of all our union rep has agreed to these duties as he is "not a fan of seniority". Secondly the majority of staff can drive so theres no issue there and thirdly its alright being grateful youve got a 39 hour contract, but when youve worked for the company for 17 years and some 24hour part timer who has worked for the company for little over 12 months is laughing at you because they are guaranteed their own walk it is a very bitter pill! Surely there must be something we can do? Some full timers are thinking of reducing their hours to p/t so they get their own walk (surely this is playing into Royal Mails hands!)

I wonder why the Union Rep is not a fan of seniority? I presume that he is probably a senior member of staff himselfS6 Stroller wrote:Who gives a f*ck if he's a 'fan' of seniority or not? And new members of staff laughing cos they have their own rounds? Bizarre or that is just over-glossing things a bit?
Finally, senior members of staff wanting to cut their hours to get their own round - that is a laugh.
This office is peculiar - is it in London by any chance. Having your own round in this office must be like gold dust - even with modernisation and revision...

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.
