I tried telling him that I was entitled to a week paid leave but he wasn't having any of it. If it wasn't for the will thing then he wouldn't have paid me! If the same happens to him I shall remind him he's only aloud 1day

i have just lost my aunt,my manager says i cant get the day off for the funeral because shes not immediate family.is this right.other posties think i should get the day off,can someone help.

For the death of next of kin and blood relative, (spouse, civil partner, long standing unmarried relationship, child, parent, sibling) up to one week with pay (No additional week is allowed if the person is arranging the funeral).
For a more distant relative e.g. parent in law, grandparent, aunt, uncle- one day with pay.
Discretion for additional time off in exceptional circumstances where care of a dependant is involved, however where prolonged time off is required this might be without pay or from holiday entitlement.
Ask your manager to check the Special Leave Policy and make sure he has a look at the bit marked bereavement.

thanks for letting me know.still not getting day off,my manager says aunts and uncles not included and he contacted h.r.and they said the same.union and royal mails policy on bereavement must be different.needs to be 1 rule
