Breaks and length of shifts

Hi. Wondered if anyone could shed any light on this as I seem to be getting conflicting information!

Am I right in thinking that breaks are allocated as follows

1-4 hour shift 10 mins per hour
5-8 hour shift 10 mins per hour (50 mins total)
8+ 10 mins per hour

Is there a maximum length of shift you can do? I was working afternoons yesterday and there was some talk of wanting people to staff the night shift as we were so short staffed, can you legally do a 16 hour shift?

Following on from that, does the 10 hour gap between shifts able to none driving roles?

Sorry but you are incorrect in your thinking :chuckle :chuckle (I sound like something out of 1984)

The breaks are as shown:

the daily rest period is 9 hours minimum,so you cannot work anymore than 15 hours in any 24hr period

How come in the mail centre I work in for 4 hours we get 20+10 and for 8 we get 40 + 20?

your 20 and 40 min breaks are meal relief, and go up and down on the sliding scale that accounts for shift length

the 10 and 20 is your pre scheduled relaxation allowance, iirc if you are part time (or working 'part' a shift (less than 8 hours)), this is reduced to 10 minutes from 20.

Only those who work in processing in a MC are entitled to relaxation, for whatever reason, however other functions are allowed a 10 minute unscheduled grace break of 10mins (e.g. a quick cup of coffee before going out on delivery)
