Re: Royal Mails new system
Rob Jenson, our collection and delivery director, has been on BBC Breakfast News to talk about our plans to extend ‘Delivery to Neighbour’ UK-wide, subject to Ofcom amending regulatory arrangements.
He said the scheme – whereby customers will have their parcels delivered to a neighbour if they are not in to receive them – was ‘all about convenience’ to customer....

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

We're not allowed to bring mail back, we've always been told even by the union rep whatever we take out is in agreement with RM to return any mail to the office would be classed as willful delay so we're supposed to be able to look into a crystal ball on a daily basis and know exactly how long the duty will take us, we can all see into the future and know everything about traffic conditions old ladies taking 3 years to arrive to the door to collect parcels and all the likesCORTINA wrote:Royal Mails new system .. Postmen cannot always complete their round on time and bring mail back to their depot now... because of high volume s of packages...
So yeah pretty much screwed either way.

I thought that the 'deliver to neighbour scheme' was only for items which stipulated a specific neighbour close to the actual address, not any house nearby who'll take it. The same system as we have for tracked items, 'leave with a neighbour' means nothing more than P739 it, leave with 42 High Street means take it to 42 High Street; simple and no guess work!

You HAVE to opt out,if you haven't a sticker or have told RM to not do it,your neighbours will get your mail.

If the sticker is not made easily visible at my address, items may be delivered to a neighbour if I am not at home or I may be asked to take receipt of my neighbours’ item(s).

13. I do not want items I am sending to be delivered to a neighbour - I only want them delivered to the person I have addressed them to.
As a sender of mail you are not able to request that your items are delivered to the intended recipient only.
5. What happens if my neighbour denies having my item, or mail left with a neighbour gets lost or damaged?
If any items are delivered to a neighbour as part of this trial and are subsequently lost or damaged, consumers will still be able to make a compensation claim in the normal way.
12. What if there’s a problem with mail you’ve delivered to my neighbour?
Compensation arrangements for mail delivered in trial areas are the same as those for mail delivered elsewhere in the UK.

I for one have no intention of doing this. Never mind the fact that we dont have the time, i draw the line at knocking on someone elses door when you dont have anything for them. We get enough abuse as it is without waking a night worker only to find out that they cant stand that person.

Re: Royal Mails new system
The headline seems to be that the 'dreaded red card' is at an end. Will we not still be expected to leave one to tell the addressee where the parcel has been left? And how much extra time will it take to return to the original address to deliver the card once we have found somewhere to leave the packet?
Apparently in the trial this was not done at least in some circumstances and it was down to the person who the parcel had been left with to deliver it. The addressee may have had no idea there was a parcel delivered that day at all, let alone where it went to.
How can this be satisfactory?
When I heard that we were going to be allowed to leave parcels with neighbours officially I assumed it would be on an OPT IN basis, not OPT OUT! In other words a sticker on the door that would say something like 'If no answer please leave packages with number 42'. If people wanted their stuff to go somewhere else they would opt in after a visit to the parcels office if they didn't know about the scheme already. As this stands, if people don't know about the scheme they won't opt out until they find their mail is being delivered at random to whoever is prepared to take it in!
As others have said the current idea is barking mad and shows no appreciation of how long it takes to knock, wait, decide no one is in, move to another door, knock, wait decide no one is in...............................how long are we going to be expected to do this for one parcel?
Hopefully the media has got it wrong, I await official guidance on how this is supposed to be going to work. If what has been published so far is correct, it is not going to work, it is as simple as that.

Re: Royal Mails new system
I a sorry but this is a cost saving exercise pure and simple. It is also open to abuse from all sides.
Dishonest Customer: Carded and gets mail from neighbour - keeps card and claims.
Dishonest Neighbour: Refuses to hand over package or denies having been given it by Postie.
Dishonest Postie: Cards to say left with neighbour but doesn't.
And of course all 3 dishonest people will use the other 2 scenarios to deflect suspicion.
--------------- Being open to abuse Royal Mail really won't have any viable target to blame other than the postie. Without safeguards and written instructions any postie who does this is running too great a risk in my opinion.
Even with written instruction I would be wary of doing it anyway.

Its just another stupid idea thought up by someone who does'nt know how the job works. You get these numpties from other industries come in and want to put there mark on RM then it goes tits up and they f**k off never to be seen/heard from again. Has anyone owned up to the P & L fiasco yet?

Some of this is a bit strange anyway, rem when we were told to knock on neighbours doors to get rid of the tracked BT stuff, which my place refused to do anyway.

What we really need is a 'Keep at DO' service for customers who know they wont be in. They indicate 'Keep at DO' when ordering anything and when it gets to the DO it's held in the callers office and we simply deliver a card saying it's ready for collection.
