Royal Mail has apologised for the delays faced by people picking up undelivered parcels from its Bath sorting office.
Customers have complained they sometimes have to queue for half an hour to collect items from the office at Railway Place.
The firm says the problems have stemmed from its roll-out of new delivery patterns, which mean that mail is now being delivered at different times of the day.
Royal Mail spokeswoman Val Bodden said it was putting in extra staff to deal with the demand.
"We apologise to customers who are experiencing delays. We have recently introduced some changes to our mail operations in the Bath area and these changes require a period of adjustment for staff as they bed in."
When the Chronicle visited at 1.50pm last Friday, there was a nine-person queue at the office. Customer Caroline Curran said it had taken her nearly two weeks to get one parcel after giving up twice previously because of the size of the queue.
She said: "It's been a bit ridiculous. They don't have enough staff."
If any customer has any queries about changes to their delivery services, they should contact the Royal Mail customer service department on 0845 601 1399 or via the website http://www.royalmail.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;.
Meanwhile, rival firm myHermes has launched three ParcelShops where people can post parcels in Bath – at Londis in London Road, Good News in Gay Street and Chaplins in Weston High Street.
Spokesman Jonathan Bennett said: "Feedback from the community has been great."

Apology for parcel delays at Bath sorting office
I Wrote-During Covid-Which is still relevant now
It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.
My BFF Clash
The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Massive queue outside our Callers Office (at least 40 people) today and only 1 person behind the counter.
So keep on moving, moving, moving your feet
Keep on shuf-shuf-shuffling to this ghost dance beat
Just keep on walking down never ending streets
Illegitimi non carborundum

Mail pick-up point expanded http://www.southwestbusiness.co.uk/news ... -expanded/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
The mail pick-up point at Bath’s sorting office is to be expanded to cut the length of customer queues.
Royal Mail has apologised for the second time in a month over the delays faced by people picking up undelivered parcels from the city centre office.
Customers have complained that it took up to an hour to collect items from the office at Railway Place last weekend.
Last month, the firm blamed the roll-out of new delivery patterns, which mean that mail is now being delivered at different times of the day, and said it would be putting in extra staff.
Now it says the inquiry office will be reshaped to create space for more counter staff.
Royal Mail spokeswoman Val Bodden said: “We apologise to customers who are continuing to experience delays to the collection of items from our inquiry office at Bath delivery office.
“We are focussing our efforts on resolving the problems faced by restricted access to our inquiry office. We are in the process of making changes to the layout within the delivery office which will enable us to offer better and increased access to our customers to ensure a speedier service.”
She added: “We would also like to remind customers that there are alternative ways to receive their undelivered mail from us, including arranging a re-delivery free of charge.
The undelivered items can be re-delivered to the same address on a day that is more convenient or the item can be delivered to a different address within the same postcode area, if that is more suitable. This service can be accessed online at http://www.royalmail.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; or by calling the number on the card left.
The office is open from 7am to 6.30pm on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, from 7am to 8pm on Wednesdays, and 7am to 2pm on Saturdays.
The firm’s customer service department is on 0845 601 1399 or can be contacted via the website http://www.royalmail.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;.
