I am led to believe in that in France they only put two sizes of mail through
the MECH and all other sizes have to go manual and most likely at a higher
cost, would this explain why the machine in the video does'nt have a doubles
box on it because as "Stampy" says we throw everything into the machine
and maybe we have them to filter out the more awkward shaped letters.

The thing is useless, jams for no reason constantly, shreds a lot of mail for no reason, belts are ridiculously large and complex for no reason, the machine creates a crazy amount of doubles, whilst the mail is in transit (not when it is being fed in), when it breaks it ALWAYS requires an engineer, the paddle string is stupidly thin and snaps constantly, the clips holding in the tray holders are weak, and break frequently (not SO much of a problem since they are removing the need for 3/4 of them with a retrofitted mod for the upper tier), runners for the paddles cake up with crap really easily, meaning the paddle sticks and causes the mail to stack untidily, the tracking is broken in all of them, so a lot of pop's destined for the bottom modules go to overflow instead because the machine can't sort them, the feeder paddle stops working when the slightest bit of dirt gets into the toothed belt area, if the stream change cards is even slightly worn the machine decides to change into sequencing mode when the card is put through some of the time, belts sometimes decide to change how they are fitted, but not cause any jams, the belts cake up with dust like nothing on earth, the rollers cake up with paper instantaneously, you usually get around 4 letters wrapped around rollers per 5 hours run time, speed like to fluctuate randomly, regardless of mail type of positioning, prep area at feeder is way to small for trays and mail likes to fall off because there is no lip to hold it on, code printers don't work unless you count distorted codes as ok, mail will come flying randomly out of the culler stacker, until you blow on the thickness detector (and consequently get a faceful of dust), the label printers metal guide (where it spits the label out) is too low and you are forever bashing your hand into it and the clip holding the entire printer bit up doesn't feel the reliable when you push it back up, the slogan printer is permanently broken and leaking, screws for the lcd screens at stacks love to randomly snap, the whole paddle+runner thing loves to fall off randomly, verifier randomly likes to crap out, as does AI, the machine can't read CBC so EVERYTHING goes to AI, and one of ours has decided to randomly just start sorting 1/2 of the mail being put in into upper overflow until the engineer does a full reset for no reason anyone can work out (including the WCM crew but that's not saying much)

This list is not exhaustive.

Chances are that RM engineers could permanently fix a lot of them problems but I don't think they are allowed to make any mods to the iLSMs because of the guarantee and/or warranty for them. I wouldn't be surprised if the CBC they can read is whatever version of CBC the french use

One of the ILSMs at GMC has several MODS added to it ,Heath Robinson stuff mind you, all in the name of the Great God
W. asting C. ompany M. oney. These include adding little brushes to some of the rollers and what looks like cut up
margarine tubs which sit on the mail path in the delay line. This machine is only about 18 months old, if it needs these
silly add-ons then why did'nt they come with machine as standard kit.Said it before on here "If Carlsberg did stupidity
they'd come to RM for advice"
Agree entirely with "Talell" as to the problems he listed.Cant see this machine lasting half the time of the NP4000s
unless they throw plenty of money at them in repairing them.

you only have the blue peter mods in the delay line? luck you, we have them everywhere, to the point where the thing is nearly impossible to vacuum out, oh and have you noticed they cause jams as well. They also decided it would be a great idea that they should put tape down over the holes to the undercarriage, which makes the dust gather up top (and increase the heat level) and damage the really pricey stuff. They fit a dust extractor in one of the modules, not only was the thing louder than the machine, but it caused jams, and they refused to believe that was what was causing it

our engineers have no idea what's wrong with them, it could be a million things, and they don't have time to find out because the machines are so maintenance heavy, and trying to fire fight the latest problems, but thing on them break in no time, let me put it this way, one of our ilsms is on its fourth CMV (they cost around 18k each) and it still doesn't work right, (we are banned from powering down the ilsms because something will probably break)

iirc the warranty only lasts 1 year, so our engineers have started using cheaper belts etc, which actually work better than the factory standard.

by the way, how many people here realise that one of the 'cards' that an ilsm and css uses costs €1 each?

Can't they just make some on an office printer? All it is is a piece of card with a barcode on...

no, because they would wear out too quickly, since the current cards are actually a sheet of plastic coated in paper, which makes them harder to tear and more durable overal

Remember, the cards, in a css's case, go through the machine 3 times per batch.

you would need to print new ones out everyday, at least, if you used 'cardboard technology', not to mention they wouldn't be colour coded, making mistakes a lot more likely

The original cards were actually plastic and were far more hard wearing .... but RM decided to go with the card as it is cheaper.

As i was told by a gaffer,
RM have signed a contract with solystic to be supplied with these cards, so whether or not they can be copied, we are not allowed !

No need for anyone to copy them, as they're consumable spares just like belts, filters etc. Should always be a spare set on hand for when the cards reach the end of their useful life, and when the new set is used another set is then ordered.
