How much work are you getting?

Thats good news. Gatwick takes our 2nd class mail from Croydon and I'm there on about 25 hours a week. It's suddenly been a lot more worth it since AWR has come into force. I'm quietly hoping that we may get a few extra hours with Mothers day and Easter coming up as it all helps. I wonder how many people are working for Angard now on a typical week.

Its good news for me as as I said im only on 20hours but have been cracking out 30 to 43hours a week.........always getting call from manager right through to friday, then work saturday only getting sundays off at the moment! so its very good. yes the AWR rate is pretty amazing im on £11.20? so doing 30 to 43 hours a week is a nice amount to be paid at the end of each week

Are you getting £11.20 because it includes London weighting or was it for night shifts? My pay went up to £10.49 per hour on the pay slip I got week before last but then back down to £6.08 again last week. I'm assuming that this is a typical case of Angard being inept. I was quite happy with £10.49 -it seemed to be more than those who had transferred to Royal Mail contracts were getting.

I think its the London weighting being applied. Also did you miss any shifts last week? apparently somebody told me that if you miss a day then you don't qualify for AWR in that given week. Which is total rubbish as they can't do that. I'm going for a mistake on their payroll. Furthermore whats happened to holiday pay are you getting your AWR rate or the flat 6.08. Mine hasn't changed yet and I don't know what they do regarding this.

Yeah it must be the london thing mate, I always work my 20hours that im set out to do so I havent been paid on a lower rate aslong as I do my set hours of 20.......but even if didnt I do not think they can do this! my holiday pay says all different things from £6.08 to £6.58 to £6.70 lol no idea what thats about but I have saved up 35hours of it so wheeeyyy!! I have not missed any shifts only shifts I "miss" are the odd ones that I got called in for NOT my set hour shifts so I do not know about the missing shift less pay, sounds wrong and is obvs wrong.

You have earned holiday hours each time you have worked at the pay rate you worked. What is happening is that as you work at the higher rate since AWR the holiday pay rate needs to reflect this so you get the holiday hours each week then they adjust the pay rate based on your new pay rate and the old holiday pay rate based in a weighted average of hours. The holiday pay rate will increase towards your pay rate since AWR. If you take all your holiday pay now the holiday pay rate should then be your pay rates since AWR. Although, adjustments will be made dependent upon when you work as you get different AWR rates at different times (e.g. day and night. weekdays and Sunday).

Well at the Swansea mail centre I was working 20 - 30 odd hours a week until about 2 or 3 weeks after I hit the 12 week qualifying period , I did then go through 2 weeks of not getting a single shift and was just on the verge of thinking about signing back on with the job centre lol.
Then for reasons unknown I have worked continuously for the past 2 weeks or so with many shifts my normal night shift 10:30 - 6:30 and quite a few 12 hour shifts.

No calls to go into work now though for the past 2 days which is quite a bummer as I really do enjoy the work.

As for who calls me , well its normally the RM staff upstairs above the mail centre that ring me ( not sure what department ) and occasionally 1 of the managers rings me directly.

You buggers that have managed to get short hour contracts with RM directly are lucky sobs :( , I would love to be in that position as then at least I would know where I stood as far as guaranteed work goes. How did you go about getting them ? Are you doing a delivery job or sorting in the mail centre ?

A few of you said you are getting paid breaks now ? I have been told by Angard that even though I am on the higher rate of pay now that breaks are still unpaid .. could you guys clear this up for me ?

Oh and holiday pay is basically as Verging said , if you have worked shifts on the lower rate and the higher rates of pay then the holiday rate is basically an average of the 2. As your holiday hours increase from doing more shifts on the higher rate , you will see the holiday rate slowly increase if that makes sense lol.

Paid breaks are included - our current issue is that nobody will tell us what our break entitlement is. As each Mail Centre can have different breaks Angard are trying to get the information from my Mail Centre (and all the others) so they can tell us. I have asked HR Resourcing at the Mail Centre but get told to asks Angard - Angard say they have not been told by the Mail Centre and cannot seem to get the information from them even after numerous request to the Mail Centre. I simply ask a permanent each time I go in for different shift/hours what they get for that period and I take the breaks accordingly.

You need to only work once per week for that week to be included in your qualification period for the count of weeks.

each mail centre may plan the breaks differently but they all have the same basic entitlement......

I've been very lucky to have been working 5 night shifts a week since the end of Feb! They screwed me over at Christmas (£250 they still owe me, that I'll probably never get back) but pay seems to be ok now. There are usually 4 of us Angard casuals in every night. We are known as the 'regulars' fingers crossed, We might get a permanent job out of it.

We get longer breaks than that. In a 4 hour shift we get 20+10 and in a 8 hour shift 40+20.

If your in a Mail Centre I think their breaks are different.
