Is there any way to stop the delivery of a parcel I posted?

Dear folks,

I posted a parcel on Friday before the bank holiday from Cambridge to Oxford (the triangle industrial estate if that's any help).
However I have made a mistake and I must get this back without reaching the recipient.
It is something expensive and it will be impossible to sort out if it gets delivered incorrectly.

I am proper panicking so I was wondering what steps should I take to get this back.

I plan on contacting my local sorting office in case it hasn't gone far on Saturday before the bank holiday (that is the day after I posted) and the Oxford delivery offices to intercept delivery, some numbers I found online I don't know who to call exactly as I don't think the main number on the RM site will help. I don't even know if they will be willing to help if I manage to get through them as I would be willing to pay for it to be returned back but I don't know their policy like for e.g. this is common procedure with USPS http://www.ehow.com/how_8498745_stop-pa ... -usps.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; but what about Royal Mail?

I do have a tracking number and also the address of the recipient on the parcel (my address is not on it) so hopefully this will help locate it (yes I know it is not tracked all the way through but if I find the office that will deliver it and give them this number then they can perhaps intercept it?

PLEASE can you guys advise me something, anything? I am really worried and have searched the internet up and down before finding this site.

I have a tracking number I can put on the RM site to say it was accepted at my local post office. It is a prepaid shipping label. I don't know if it is equivalent to RM recorded delivery ( I don't think it is) but is a means to identify a parcel that is all.

Edit:// Anyway you can intercept a parcel but it's probably depending on the manager you get. I remember doing exactly the same thing when I tried to stop a special getting to someone. (long story but I was foolishly scammed at the time). Sadly in my case they already picked up the item but at least it can be attempted, or it could about seven years ago when I tried. The item did have my name on the back though so that might have helped. Another point which might have helped was that the item was P739 (red card). So an initial delivery WAS attempted.

Ring or visit your DO ASAP and plead with a manager is the only advice I have. Bring plenty of proof including all your receipts. Royal Mail do, however, have a duty to 'deliver' or make an attempt to deliver the item. This might be your undoing.

why would it?

because it is the wrong item sent to the wrong people? and they will keep it as it is a lot of money and I will never see that money / item again....

Thanks for your input. I will try my very best in the early hours of the morning, still don't know if it would have left my city already, I hope not as in that case my best bet is to plead to the delivery office in Oxford. :( :(

there will be no way you can get it back as its not your packet anymore its the recipents being looked after in the care of the queen

Sorry to be pedantic but it will be delivered correctly as issued. The contents in the box are irrelevent in that situation.

Still, try the delivery office, its your only chance albeit how small.

Would my local delivery depot be the place this will be at if it hasn't left my city (the likes are it hasn't) if I get there by 7am tomorrow? I mean the sorting office where I'd go if I had a red card to collect an item? Or will it be some other depot where items are sorted to be despatched away? thanks!

What time of the day was it posted (presumably at your local PO branch)? On the receipt that they give, does it say if the item had missed the last collection?

It was posted at 5.30pm on Friday, it did miss the last collection and it says so on the receipt too. However they were working on Saturday too, I don't know what could have happened that day and how far the parcel has gone...

If the PO branch where it was posted was open Saturday then it probably would have had at least one collection so the item will probably have made it at least as far as Cambridge MC, depending on what lorry runs take place it could have made to Swindon MC.

So would my best bet be to call any delivery offices in Oxford instead? How can I be sure which delivery office there serves the area where the parcel is going?
