Discussing cut offs with staff in the middle of the street is very unprofessional.
What happens if they disagree?...in public and a customer reports the ensuing argument.
When do the cut offs get delivered if the manager is disappearing with bags at 1300,how long before Joe Public twigs that the mail disappearing into the back of the manager's car is his and he isn't going to see it until much later...possibly tomorrow.
That kind of unprofessional.
I haven't mentioned the rep deliberately because i don't know his part in this but it wouldn't be me.

In some ways I think this is a good novel approach by the DOM, they are giving the OPGs on the street to give them feedback on how the walk has gone upto ~1300 with the rep acting as a witness, the time gained or lost on a walk with a lot of signature items and attandence packets can have a huge bearing on how the delivery span time works out (especially if a lot of delivery points do not answer).

However, what is going to happen when/if DOM changes the goalposts and/or gets grief from further up the management chain? What happens when the DOM and OPG cannot agree on what is likely to be achievable before their official time to arrive back at the depot and how is it going to look doing this in public (although it might open some eyes as to more about what being a postie is like)?

could be discussing anything as far as joe public would know, as for arguements as i said he has not yet(as of 5 days now) disagreed with ANY posties assessment, remember he is only making sure they are staying on the streets to their time, cut offs are being left in the boxes and delivered by the usual docket monsters in the office, and as i said he is using a van not his car, we have clear office policy and clear practically everyday albiet on docket,

yeah rep is really not happy but other than refusing to be present as a witness not much he can do about it, though is trying to find an avenue

by coming out to you at 1300 he's not following royal mail policy the correct way is to disscus it prior to you leaving as he must then find another way to deliver the mail before the stipulated time scale is 3:00 pm i'm sure post watch / com would love to know thers a posibility of the mail not reaching the address when it's due to :no no pointless telling moya's team they couldn't care less so long as they recive the bonus pay ........and those figgures for % rates on deliverd mail are a complete joke what you don't see doesn't get counted :hmmmm

I think by going out the DOM is trying to isolate the pisstakers from those with genuine heavy loads, in doing so he finds out, exactly where they are at a certain time, and exactly how much mail they have left.

By taking the Rep out with him he's covering his own arse, to save arguments later.

I wouldn't call it a trick, I'd call it, good man management.

How does the manager know what to put through the system as a failed delivery if he only goes out near 2 ish to take any cut offs.

Is it not Royal Mail policy to report any failures through the computer both in the morning and again at 1 o'clock.

Is this a way of hiding mail when audits are to be carried out or could it be classified as wilful delay by the manager if it is not delivered.

All the offices in the area have a clear office policy, and his method so far has meant the mail is being delivered and not failing

If they'd had a DM revision then the situation wouldn't occur because everyone starts at the office and everyone finishes at the office without exception. Anyone who comes back early is sent out on cut offs or sorting or packets. A simple solution to avoid any questionable practices he simply states that from Monday everyone returns to the office on completion in preparation for the revision. Just another highlight of the gulf between offices and the take up of BT 2010. It really is time somebody got a grip of the situation. It looks like some are still on the QE2 and some are chained in the hold on the way to the colonies.
