HI Folks
I'm only new to this site but can someone please explain to me what world class mail is? and why have we spent so much money on it for nothing in return?

Re: World Class Mail
World Class Mail what does it mean - It depends on the audience.
MPs - Its sold as a way of modernising the company readying it for privatisation.
Managers - Its a lifeline/climbing pole that they can use to try and survive the oncoming cull.
Union - Its a way of getting them to believe the change in ethos and inclusion is real.
Posties - A way of being made to feel important and included in the decision making
Business Clients and Customers - Showing that we are a vibrant and forward looking group that will adapt and change where necessary.
Receivers - No message needed as they have no input.
In reality its smoke and mirrors for everyone outside the company. Inside its the same with the added pressure that if its not working its not managements fault but the workers who are not adapting to or adopting it fully.
Am I cynic of WCM you bet I am, anything that make the job easier should be welcomed, but WCM seem to make the simple tasks harder, it seems to treat H&S as a tick box exercise and introduces targets where non are needed.
To be fair though some things that are introduced are a good idea, such as painted areas for storing Yorkies etc, and keeping walkways and fire exits clear. But these are not really WCM, they are standard H&S practices in most warehouses outside of RM.

Who will probably still get axed when RM do eventually ditch wcm I reckon it'll be a year at most before RM ditch wcm. Anyone know how much it's costing them overall - wouldn't surprise me if it were costing them a fortune.TrueBlueTerrier wrote:Managers - Its a lifeline/climbing pole that they can use to try and survive the oncoming cull.

Re: World Class Mail
WCM - yet another pile of hogwash.
These are business management practices, dreamt up by management "gurus" to keep themselves in employment while gullible senior executives, who should know better, swallow this garbage hook, line and sinker.
Similar in scope to TQM and continual improvement processes. So, why the need for the “new” approach? None, except that someone can make a lot of money out it.
We’ll all go through months and months of pointless meetings, expending god knows how many man hours and end up with any number of virtually unworkable practices which will be heralded as “bloody marvellous” (might even get your picture in The Courier if you’re really unlucky). As soon as the bandwagon rolls on to another office, they’ll be dropped quicker than a turd from a moving train.
Think Investors in People, ISO accreditation etc. – all meaningless. Jobs for the boys!

Re: World Class Mail
I think it means journal in Japanese thats what all the WCM cult members say theyve done when theyve been sitting upstairs for months discussing how to get the mail out of the door cheaper and quicker they say theyve done a Kaizan on the section and logg it all and pinpoint where weve all be going wrong then they stick it all on a big board with photos and fancy arrows explaining every detail and some of the cult leaders come in and look at the boards and they call it a WCM audit and they award points for the best boards with the best photos and arrows on them and they have to get a certain amount of points to pass the audit.I think the Prof from Japan probley just keeps telling them theyve failed coz he keeps getting thousands of pounds from them for not actually telling them the way they have to find the path to perfection for them selves hes only there to guide themRed Robbo wrote:What's a KAIZAN ?

Re: World Class Mail
We now spend more time filling in 3 sheets of paper ABOUT the Jam on our iLSM's than we do actually CLEARING the said jam....
Waste of bloody time.
Waste of bloody time.
And after a while, you can work on points for style,
Like the club tie, and the firm handshake,
A certain look in the eye and an easy smile.
You have to be trusted by the people that you lie to,
So that when they turn their backs on you,
You'll get the chance to put the knife in.
