i would get a rep, hopefully the dom is ok, and dont do it again. They are always looking to cut staff(costs).

A rural driver in our office is currently under suspension due to signing for a signed-for item. Unfortunately for him the recipient rang our office to ensure that he was thanked for doing this as they'd have had to travel miles to come and collect it and the contents were time-sensitive and couldn't wait until redelivery the following week. To compound matters further his lino is a complete snake always out to climb the career ladder and score brown-nose points with the DOM and unfortunately said snake took the call. The moral of the story is don't give them enough rope to hang you, even if you know you're actually doing what the customer wishes - particularly if you're a long term full time employee.

The customer should write a letter informing management that is requested form of action when getting letters to be signed. Really if a customer requests this RM really can't do anything......the customer is always right!!!!

I'm sorry 10shamrock but i never leave parcels unless i personally know the recipient, then it would be in a shed or garage
never on the step. Plus you didn't scan the item

I didn't put the recorded delivery barcode into the scanner at all

someone paid extra for that proof of delivery and they didn't get it.
I hope you just get a roasting cause your intentions were good, but also hope you have learnt a lesson.

You need to speak to your rep and get your area rep on board and also as said before see if similar cases have been dealt with and the outcome.
Be honest and upfront the deed is done no point back-pedalling now, show your remorseful

You're missing the point, the recipient is not the customer. The customer is the person/company that has sent the item and paid for this service.
You won't have a letter from them asking you to sign on behalf of the intended recipient.

Someone else in my section actually proffered that suggestion to a customer and regular recipient of of recordeds/registered/tracked itmes on his walk. It was followed through and sure enough a letter was written to the DOM basically explaining that said customer was more than happy to entrust her OPG to sign for and put through signed-for items when they were not around which had been the case due to later starts, P&L etc. DOM was still steadfast in his 'must follow procedure' mantra and so it's P739s all the way.
Straight4ward is right, A front line employee's view as to what constitutes 'good customer relations' is always going to differ from management's as their take on who actually is 'the customer' are at different ends of the spectrum. Personally speaking, it's not in my interest or that of my job security to intervene in a contract between peoples that I neither know nor particularly care about and the myriad of possibilities for things to go awry. I just attempt to deliver the stuff; if they're not available to complete the contract then that's not my concern - it's a consequence of their lifestyle and I'm not compromising mine to 'do someone a favour'.

Mmmmm..interesting one this one....few years ago a driver allegedly left several registered items on the front seat of their van in an office i know of..they were stolen and we all expected this person to be sacked(and i am sure they did),but this person was given a two year rep allegedly and still retained their job somehow...amazingly and stupidly the same person was caught doing the same thing again only a few months later(leaving specials on the front seat of a van)..again this person was given a final warning,took off driving,but still kept their job somehow...the person in question was well in with the gaffers due to working all the hours god send and for bailing out the gaffers time and time again for quite a few years...so perhaps they were due some slack i don't know...
