Strike Action....Please read.

Millions of people across the land make thier own way to work every day. They should just chalk this up to having had a nice cushy little benefit for a while before they were made to join the real world.

Why would any posties who haven't received this perk, bother going on strike just to maintain this bonus for a priviledged few??? Before this bus was cancelled were these people jumping up and down to get the rest of us an extra allowance to cover the costs of our travel into work?

I'm due to appear in the local press with a local celeb who is backing our cause, its Gonch from Grange Hill!! Should be out next Thursday, maybe wed night

I don't want to ride a bike AL, its too cold and dark at 5 in the morning, the only other choice i have is to get my wife to drive me in to work. I have a skateboard but i haven't used it for years....
We must fight Royal Mail!!

"to get my wife to drive me in to work" There's some on here that can only dream of having (a) a wife and (b) a household car and as for a wife to chauffer one to work why ever consider a lift in a Royal Mail van again ?

Millions have poorer terms and conditions than us,i'm not in any hurry to join them.
This "i'm not getting it so no-one should" attitude baffles me.
Who wins in that scenario?...other than RM of course.

I'll tell you how this situation came about in my office....gather round.
Around 15 years ago we were a happy little town centre D.O.,no-one needed a lift,we all just walked in or in extreme circumstances...used a bike then the big bad bosses decided to merge and relocate miles away in the heart of an industrial estate,not the kind of place you want to be walking to at 0430 and no public transport,despite a valiant fight we resigned ourselves to moving but one of the conditions we won was that transport would be provided for those in post in perpetuity...it was win/win..it also protected jobs.
Now along came SDD and members smelling an early finish started bringing their cars to work,of course management sensed weakness and offered these geniuses a bung to forgo their right to assisted travel,some of us held out...
Does that make us the privileged few?
Or does it make us the principled few?

I too once worked on an out of town industrial estate and it had lots of unpleasant aspects.
in the icy snowy weather it was so far off the the main routes it received no grit i think this was mainly because
the avenues between the industrial units were private and didn't come under the highways authority.and was the worst surface ive ever driven or ridden.
big trucks from a haulage company would grind snow down into a pan that would last for days....

if this benefit is lost there might still be some options, car sharing etc if the numbers are still significant.
takes organizing and has drawbacks ie one person oversleeps two people are late.

The point is FT this guy is looking for support for strike action across the land on something that affects 25 people. If they want to strike then good luck to them. I'm doubtful that I'd ever need to go near that office but should the one-in-a-million situation arise I would not cross thier picket line. But this special bus is not something anyone can really expect from an employer and to even dream that people would come out on strike over it with them is living in la la land!

It's a local issue an no doubt important to a tiny minority. But with all the other issues we are faced with on a daily basis in many offices, this one just smacks of throwing a rattle out of the pram just for the sake of it!

I've already stated that going on strike over it is ridiculous and doomed to failure.
I'm also not convinced over how genuine the guy is.
I am still disappointed in the tone of the thread which seems to brush over the fact that whether this "privilege" is deserved or not management should not be allowed to remove it without proper consultation and focuses instead on the strange idea that all of our terms and conditions should be dictated by the worst.
If i had my way everyone would get RM transport to work...it's a real shame that so many prefer the option of no-one receiving this "privilege".

If i had my way fed up.
If i had my way we would also be on £500 a week basic.
As for the outside world...they can fight their own battles.
Every time i hear the words "lucky to have..." it sends a cold shiver down my spine.
It's a cowards mantra...what we have we fought for...there was no luck involved.

if a unit has still got a canteen or a patio area with chairs or plenty of lockers, a drying room.etc
then good luck to them! i know offices with none of the above.

Am I right in thinking this guy is claiming he is organising a strike ballot and then later says he cant actually go on strike himself as he is not in the Union.,

If Royal Mail genuinely thinks it can't continue subsidising joe379's transport maybe they could offer him home working.
