No it isn't worth striking over but the fact is it's the withdrawal of an existing privilege without consultation or agreement.
Yes it may be a privilege but most of the time these were only given at a cost...in our case it was relocation to a god forsaken and inaccessible industrial estate and it disappoints me that petty jealousy seems to be the overriding sentiment on this thread.

No it's not petty jealousy, no other company would pick up there workers, I f you want the job then you have to find a way of getting there, I reckon joe just wants to freeload and expects everyone else to walk out but not him, Sounds to me like he needs to realise we have moved forward as a company ( for the better i think ) The sooner we get rid of all these perks that the old guard had the better, We need to make savings and this will help. I'm with the dom on this one.

I will start by becoming a union rep that sucks up to the dom, never does any work and sells us all down the river by signing up to everything the dom wants just so i can keep my cushy little number while everyone else is shafted.

Well I am sorry but that came across as petty. The point is not that they are getting the privilege, or even that its being removed. But the fact that the appear to have removed it without consultation with the Union, which is the new ethos RM keep banging their drum about.

I think that they are lucky to have this resource but I would like to know the background of why they had it introduced in the first place before I condemn them for trying to keep it.

As to no company picking up their workers - Bon Marche in Huddersfield lay on 2 buses from the town centre to their place of work.

Lastly as a Union member, as long as he has the support of local Union members and an official democratic ballot, then I'll support his cause. If he doesn't then I wish him luck in his campaign but fear it will fail.

You'll go far with that attitude, all the way to the Boardroom if we're unlucky,

Mind you can't see Moya giving up her perks of 2 free flights to Canada every year, I think that would be a career buster, but go for it if we can't have perks should a CEO on £485K get them instead.

Rep can agree if they want, what about the members - it should be put to a vote. It would probably be accepted to be fair, but still you can't run a democratic union on "well they'll accept it anyway" shrug of the shoulders.

You could always put in a disagreement stating 'Custom & Practice', whether that would help I don't know

Hi,

I currently work in an office in Herts, where a strike is on the cards. The office has about 250 people working in it at the moment, and out of that about 25 people get a lift into work from Royal Mail. I don't have a car and i'm not prepared to cycle in and nor do i want to walk in. The DOM at our office wants to do away with the vans that bring this group into work meaning i will have to walk into work. Iam trying to get a ballot for strike action, there are of course descenting voices 'why should you get a lift in' or 'everyone else gets in ok, why can't you' and even 'why should i lose money in a strike for a few lazy people who won't buy a bike' that is their point of view, it's wrong. We have to draw a line in the sand and dare RM to cross it. We are up for the fight, are you Moya? It maybe a long strike and we may need support, can we count on other offices to join us? Come on lads, remember the Alammo!

Well at a guess I'd say that on a ballot you would have 25 for and 225 against, just the law of averages really.

No problem with her going back to Canada, or even coming back , but at £485K a year she could probably afford an aircraft all by herself out of her own pocket. My point is if perks are being removed at one end of the organisation why not the other, and that removal of the perk is not the issue but the way they have done it.
