There has been silence from HQ and in particular Dave Joyce over the non-use of delivery methods from day one.
Considering it was sold as the main H&S plus point of the change of working practices and has a major effect on delivery spans and therefore protecting jobs i find the whole thing puzzling.
We have management nailed down over this, they agreed it was mandatory but now members and HQ seem to be conspiring to undermine the whole thing.
We've just been issued with a new Do your job properly poster.
It states...
Never before has it been more important to work safely.

✱ Don’t come in early
✱ take your meal breaks
✱ Don’t use your private car on Delivery

It doesn't even mention delivery methods....why not?
Is it because the trolleys are unpopular with the membership?
Or is it because they are unpopular with RM management now that they have realised that they cost much more hours than they thought?
Either way it's a bit strange...the silence. :hmmmm

I think it is simply an updated version of the campaign that has been ongoing but falling on deaf ears for decades.
Not updated enough though.
It should include use of mandatory equipment but with a lot of units still to have a Delivery Methods Revision it might have been information overload for the intended target.
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

The mandatory equipment is exactly that though clash - managers should ensure that the equipment, which cost a not inconsiderable amount, is used and not languishing in the corner of the office.

Like the Tray Trolleys that collection drivers are supposed to use when picking up more than one tray (or delivering more than two empties). SSOW stipulates it but the Drivers ignore it and the Hub Managers are aware that most Drivers do not even bother to book the equipment out. So who is culpable when someone hurts their back... well the Collection Driver for sure (any claim for an injury at work null and void) and the Hun Manager also for allowing it.

Health and Safety IS IMPORTANT and to wilfully ignore SSOW is not only foolish it is indefensible.

I have been using a LWT in my office since last july(we have not had our new revision yet,
BUT because it takes longer then the cycle I have been told to use the cycle for 3/4 of my delivery instead of LWT   because then I am not walking too much :hmmmm (been told by Atos only to do 3hr delivery)
Using LWT it takes me longer.

So now I am in a situation where if I go over my time and I cut off, have been told by management I will be IHR :cry :cry

Or if I say I may not be able to complete before I go out on delivery, then I am not up to RM standards and will be IHR :nervous :nervous

Our regional :evil/mad manager gave a speech on Friday that from Tuesday we will not be permitted to cut off,but instead would have to negotiate some of our parcels or packets taken off if we cant complete, otherwise he would make our start and delivery times start later that would especially effect those who have child care issues
If you're not doing your packets you are cutting off. :d'oh!
Bloody hell. Has noone got this. How can any manager ... area /regional etc etc... make a statement like this!!!! threats to child care issues!!!

It is a shocking post and i was surprised that it was ignored.
I suppose it's pretty difficult to spin such blatant grade 1 bullying at regional level into the member's fault but i'm sure someone will be along to give it a go shortly.
New relationship/seat on the board and all that.

It's not acceptable at all for a regional manager to do this and it's needs to be combated by the reps involved including passing it up to divisional level and national level.

I know if it happened in the area I reprsent we would tackle the regional manager and stop this in any way we can.

Any revisons problems should be resolved jointly under the PIR not at the whim of a manager be that area or regional.

They're carrying out 'safety checks' on us out on delivery at the moment and not once has anyone been pulled up for not using the trolley. Apparently it's not on their list.

Trolleys are provided to cover RM's arse so they dont get done for compensation claims.
If you do your back in they will say that we provide you with trolleys for Health and Safety but you chose not to use them.

Correct, as with the Tray Trolleys on collections.

So long as they provide the equipment, train you how to use it and provide documented SSOW you haven't really got a leg to stand on if you are hurt or injured.

I have attached a couple of forms issued in pads to managers which should be used to identify unsafe acts/conditions and near misses. There is no reason why anyone in RM shouldn't use these and send them back (via the local Safety Rep).

Couldn't agree more, the only problem is they just move them on to another area to make it look like they are dealing with it!they are all living in fear of telling the truth, hey how many of the faceless or chinless wonders are going to say to Moya oh by the way we all think you have it wrong, they are to busy being toady to be honest, they want the money and nothing else!
