Date: 14 May 2012

IMPORTANT & URGENT

To: CWU Regional Health and Safety Forum Secretaries & Chairs

Dear Colleagues,

National Safety Event for CWU ASRs and Royal Mail Safety Teams on Tuesday 29th May at Birmingham:

Further to my letter to Regional Health and Safety Forum Secretaries and Chairs dated 9 May 2012, this is to confirm to all Royal Mail based Area Safety Representatives that a National Joint Safety Event will take place at the Macdonald Burlington Hotel, Burlington Arcade, 126 New Street, Birmingham, B2 4JQ from 10:30am to 4:30pm. The conference will commence with registration at 10:15am for a prompt start at 10:30am. The conference will finish at 4:30pm to allow adequate time to travel.

This is a "Safety Community" event organised and hosted by Ricky McAulay Royal Mail Operations National Safety Director. All Regional Safety Directors and their Safety Teams along with the Royal Mail Operations HQ Central Safety plus CWU Area Health and Safety Representatives based in Royal Mail Operations, the CWU National Health and Safety Officer and Policy Assistant have been invited to participate.

Royal Mail supports and places great importance on the involvement of, the consultation with and the vital contribution of CWU Health and Safety Representatives and the CWU makes to maintaining and improving health and safety in the workplace which has proved to be key factor.

A key focus of this event will be to ensure alignment in effort, working to build improved relationships and good practice as a positive way towards Royal Mail and the Union working together most effectively on Safety and thereby improving health and safety standards at work.

The Event will also provide for an update and discussion on some key business health and safety issues and joint Royal Mail/CWU Safety initiatives.

The Agenda will be finalised nearer the event and sent out with the joining pack.

Travel and Subsistence should be claimed by ASRs in the Regions, in normal way. The start and finish time of the event has been arranged in order to avoid the need for overnight stays wherever possible. However, in the event that any ASR demonstrably requires it, overnight stay will be permitted with agreement from the Region. The aim is to help keep the costs to a sensible level.

The invitation has been extended to the CWU and its Area Health Safety Representatives from across the UK to join the Royal Mail Regional Safety Teams. The event has been organised at a size which is felt encourages discussion and decisions and the. CWU has a total of 60 places for ASRs at the event. To fill the 60 places, Regional Safety Forums can nominate 6 ASRs (who represent Royal Mail Operations Members) from each of the Regional Health and Safety Forums except Northern Ireland which has 1 ASR covering Royal Mail Operations. Would all Regional Health and Safety Forums return the attached form nominating 6 ASRs names plus reserves. In the event, as has occurred in the past that any Regional Health and Safety Forum does not take its full allocation, then those Regional Health and Safety Forums with named reserves will be offered the vacant places.

Any ASR that wishes to attend should contact the appropriate Regional Health and Safety Forum Secretary ASAP.

Do you think anyone will mention the non-use of delivery methods after a delivery methods revision?
